I am signing up for an indoor range that allows pistol caliber rifles (but no rifle caliber rifles). I have some 16 inch pistol caliber carbines, but for the short ranges (e.g. the 10 yard target stall) and for general handiness, are there any pistol caliber rifles being offered in less than 14.5 or so inches?

I know about the 9mm ARs, and they seem nice, but they seem a bit pricey and may need more maintanance than a Beretta Storm or Ruger PC4. Can a gunsmith cut down a Ruger or Beretta successfully? I'd want something that fires 10-round pistol magazines. There are the Mec-Gars, but I think they are a bit awkward compared to a purpose-designed carbine.

The Storm or PC4 are fine and fun but there's nothing like the versatility and LCF of the AR platform. You can get almost any barrel length you want on a 9mm AR too. 10" like mine, 7 inch are comon and I saw one here on the board that was only 3 or 4" on a 22 conversion.

No more maitenance on an AR over the other two and 10 round mags as well.

Get the AR if you have the money. If you don't you'll wish you did the first time you try one.

RRA, Olympic, and a couple of others. There are a number of used 9mm ARs in the EE right now, including several original Colts.

I'm unsure if you'd be interested in SMG type rifles, that might open a few doors for you. Some guy is selling a Famae SAF in the EE for instance. Maybe look at those HK USC's... Anyhow, it depends where your interests lie, maybe sub-carbines aren't your bag. If not, you can't really go wrong with a little AR15 9mm. Cheers

There are also the BRS-99 (quite similar to the mini-uzi, with 7.5" barrel) and the BG TP9 (Steyr SPP looking with a 4.8"? barrel). Both are around the 1800 dolar mark. I had a BRS-99 for years and it worked like a charm!

Those sub-carbines look awesome, but as far as I can tell, they only take 5-round "rifle mags." A 10 inch Beretta Storm sounds like just the ticket, though. Maybe I can buy a stock one and have it modified.
