Looking for a small cannon that has a bore the size of a golf ball. Not sure what the going rate for something like that is but not looking for anything fancy looking.

There's a reenacting supply company Down East, Loyalist Arms? They may have a genuine black powder burner. Hold onto your hat. Its an expensive hobby.

You might find some heavy wall DOM tube that is a close fit, from there you could weld one up, depending on what kind of external profile you had in mind. A piece of tapered steel octagonal lamp post might make an interesting profile, 2" plain steel towball for the breech end, a couple of chunks of shaft about 2" for the trunnions etc. etc. Fill the space with concrete and weld the muzzle on!

I have no skills in Welding sadly. I have inquired from local shops here but none of them want to get into the legality of making anything cannon like. Afraid of being sued if it explodes.

and they are probably being very prudent to do so, I have built several cannons from 50 cal to 2.625 bore (pop cans) and the first thing I would say to a new cannoneer is that loading & shooting a cannon sized charge and an ordinary muzzle loader is a completely different ball game...I thought i had a good handle on BP shooting until I built my first 1.625 bore cannon.
If you can find a library of THE Artilleryman Magazines somewhere in your neighborhood BUY THEM , no better reference to big bore cannon shooting anywhere except maybe the US Parks Service, they publish a safety manual for federal employees that put on demonstrations.
Dont let the above dissuade you it wasnt meant to, cannons can be made from scrap discarded pipe that are very safe but you have to know what your dealing with before construction....disregard the previous post about using a 2" ball hitch as a breech plug, I would consider that completely inadequate unless it has a proper breach plug cross drilled & double welded backing it up...in other words ditch the hitch!!

I guess my comment wasn't clear: I'm not suggesting the tow ball be the actual breach "plug", only the pommel. For a piece of something like octagonal steel tube as the shell and DOM as the barrel, you probably want something cut out of heavy plate, 1.5" or better 2". Some water jets can cut angles and a bevel of 1" or 1.5" tapering towards the center would somewhat approximate the look of the old hexagonal and octagonal cannons. Some sort of forged ring 3/4" could be cut to make the ring under the pommel and welded and blended in.

I legit saw a guy selling a 1812 war cannon on Kijiji in Windsor in the “tools” section for 1750 bucks or trade on a Honda 2 stroke less that a year ago. I reached out because I thought it was an odd thing to be trying to trade for a dirtbike. His story was his dad was a reanactor, part of some upper Canada society, the cannon was 200+ years old and they only ever fired powder with a wad out of it, never a cannon ball. He even had some documentation on the age and had videos of his dad firing it at a war of 1812 reenactment. Im not much of an antique guy, didn’t think there was any demand for such a thing, only have a 2 car garage and walked away from that potential Kijiji score 😆
