Any recommendations for a sheep hunting gun?

I just ordered an Antler Rocky Mountain in 7PRC. It’d be at the upper end of your price range, but worth a look?
Was leaning to towards the classic 7RM, but have heard good things about the PRC. Should be here in a couple months or so.
Do I need it, certainly not. But I wanted one, so why not eh?

I handled both a Rocky and Carbon Mountain in 7PRC at the LGS a few weeks back. Really nice guns. I was going to pull the trigger on one but needed a shotgun more. Down the road though..

I followe them (Alpine Riflecraft) on my Crackbook feed. Some very nice looking & groupings from their builds.

Anyone price out or actually have one of their builds?

My sheep hunting partner has one in .284 win. He did a review on YouTube with it. I haven’t shot one but fondled a few. They sure feel nice in the hands and shoulder. Mike put a lot of thought into his action and stock geometry.

He just started offering just his actions, iirc in the $6g range, set up with everything but stock and barrel.

Your Sheep Hunting partner also harvested a Very Nice Stone Ram with you at his side 👍😀

Sounds about right and really not that bad considering what your actually getting all in.

Around 9.5lb as is, scope is a Schmidt PMII 3-20x50 Ultra short. Suppressor is a Hausken which is very effective but weighs 11.3oz. I have had 7oz suppresors that worked well to. Today I received the new 3-18 ffp Schmidt& Bender Meta scope that would also save half pound. So overall there is potential for weight saving. Not a fan of going to titanium actions yet, not sure if they are stiff enough. Even the old Harris suits me well and I prefer it over several carbon versions we have. So more self inflicted weight... Once a year we have a hunt with friends from Germany, Sweden and Denmark. Some have mil background all are very experienced, all have very similar rifle setups. Lightweight but not super lightweight. After the hunt everyone gets one shot at the black dot of doom across a valley on a rock. Dot is about 3-4" at 440m and wind tricky. One year we all hit it.

Rifles in that year.

How do you like the S&B Meta?

That’s the trick sleeping at night 🤣. I agree 100% the 6.5s and 7s will do it. It’s a comfort thing but I’m also taking a 338 RCM so It’s sort of an in between. Just like the umph when shooting from the hip.
Do you have to practice "shooting from the hip" or does it come naturally?

Honestly practice. I try to make a point of shooting my rifle in all sorts of positions for hunting and I have shot from the hip with a few rifles. The muzzle blast is not pleasant. I haven’t needed this type of shooting in the field yet but I’d rather have tried it and know I can do it rather then try it in the field and have the rifle end up in the dirt behind me.

To each their own though! I am in no way suggesting everyone do it cause I don’t want to get blamed if a rifle ends up in the dirt all banged up.

That 1960 270 Weatherby Magnum has accounted for a lot of sheep and other game too.
