Any regrets this year?

As the deer season for me ended tonight with one last afternoon hunt and all Ontario big game hunting coming to an end Dec 31st does anyone have any regrets? I did not get out moose hunting this year so that is one of my regrets for 2014. Also late October I had a two point buck walk under my stand and I passed on him because although he had a decent sized body was obviously pretty young still then during the controlled hunt I passed on a medium sized doe. If I would have known then I wouldn't get to personally harvest a deer in any season (bow, shotgun and rifle seasons) I maybe would have taken that buck, probably not but it still haunts me a bit.

What about you guys, how did your season turn out and do you have any regrets or was it a great year?

Cheers

Second year eating tag soup. No one thing in particular. I guess I just need to pull up my socks a bit. Passed on a couple does, but the deer got hammered here the last two years by the harsh winters so I don't regret passing on them especially the one with twins. Hoping things turn around next year for me and the deer.

Only regret is not spending more time out in the bush. Success was good if measured only by animals taken but would have liked to have more time in the bush overall prepping and spending time with friends and family.

I broke my left hand September 30th which made October a write off as I was under strict orders not to shoot or lift anything heavy. I was very happy when I was told that the five weeks was long enough that hunting white-tails during the rifle should be okay. I had planned a trip up north for early October for some upland grouse and a camping trip but due to my hand I decided to cancel that.

I got out seventeen times this year for deer. Fourteen days in Ontario, not so much as given an opportunity for a shot. All deer encounters occurred before or after legal light. Last year, I missed a large fork horn because I had sat down with my gun on my lap, but orientated for left handed shooting. I couldn't flip the gun around for a right handed shot without spooking him. I should have just shot left handed, I was within 25 yards and there would have been no chance of missing even at the offhand. But that is last years regret.

Between the hand, the lack of waterfowl and upland season and the very disappointing deer season - I have to say this year was very underwhelming and slightly disappointing. I also had a terrible turkey season with very little action and a lot of mosquito bites. It's hunting, while success is nice, it suits me just fine if I am outside enjoying nature.

Now, for some positive news. I also had three days hunting in Alberta hosted by my uncle. That trip netted my first deer - a white-tailed buck of some size. So a bitter sweet season to be sure.

None and I gave up the first three weeks of waterfowl season including opening day! But after hammering the OT all fall I made my final loan payment on Christmas Day and am now completely debt free!!! Nada!! Nothing!! Not a single monthly payment outside of my cel phone and rent!!!WOO-HOO!!! I didn't mind giving up a few hunts for that!!

Only bowhunted once, so busy at work, I only rifle hunted deer 2 days and returned home early to deal with a snowstorm and work.
Deer hunt was successful, even though the holiday wasn't.
Not a regret, just next year I definitely plan to make more time for hunting.

My mojo was broken this year, just didn't have the same level of drive as most years. I blame last winter, it hung on so long that it threw a screw into everything and put me way behind. I regret not focusing more and trying to get me head back in the game. Perhaps I will when spring snow goose season opens... I know the turkey's will be in trouble.

I shot a nice buck back in October and couldn't find it after two days of searching, I may give it another try to get a deer tomorrow if the weather holds out here. My spot doesn't have the deer population that it once did.

No regrets here! Two-point bull moose and a Whitetail. [Still holding a LEH Antlerless elk tag that runs through the end of February]

Freezer looks pretty good, and an Elk would simply be icing on the cake.

Dave.

Only got out four times. I managed to tag out on a nice buck but Jr. didn't get a chance. Only real regret is I didn't get out more often. They cut our season in half so it was tough finding time. On the positive side is retirement is one year closer.

I missed my trip north this year for deer but had a good season at home with three deer so over all it was a great fall. Dutch

No real regrets. I got my white tail this year with my bow for the first time (24 yd shot). What a thrill!! Totally different experience from rifle hunting.

I was allowed to take 2 deer on my tag but only took 1 as I am the only one that eats it at our house. I keep thinking though maybe I should have taken the 2nd one as the 1st one is exceptionally tender and tasty.:d
