Any S&W or Colt 1917 .45acp revolvers around?

Sold my S&W Brazilian 45 1917/37 just a while ago, and my colt 1917 New Service (in the same posting actually). I still have one of each (which is why I didn't mind letting those two go; I like the big old revolvers. Sold each of them for either $300 or $350, I don't remember exactly, because that's what they were worth to me. Occasionally I see them on the board or in the CATF newspaper, usually for more money tho', lol. - dan

Hitzy - I had bought Dan's Colt 1917 about this time last year (November 1917 manufacture date) for about $300. To be honest it was more fun in theory than in practice as I was shooting full power .45ACP and the recoil was not to my liking. Also I can't stress enough the pain in the ass factor of prying fired brass from half-moon clips with a Swiss Army knife in mid-winter at the range.

Had I been a reloader at the time (as I am now) I would likely have kept the M1917 and just used reduced loads with .45 AutoRim as it would have been much more accurate than a 1911 of similiar vintage- live and learn I guess -

If I come across any I'll let you know.

.45ACP? Both my Colt New Service and my 1917 S&W are chambered for .455. LOL

John, that would make your S&W NOT an M.1917, but a 2nd Model Hand Ejector as I'm sure you know.

My S&W collector friend tells me that there are a few internal differences between the 2nd model & the M.1917 (the crane plunger for instance...)

I have a fairly nice New Service in .455 that is marked R.N.W.M.P. on the back strap. It is holster worn, and really quite a favorite of mine.

wow - sounds like a nice one - if you ever want to sell it let me know.

Since I only have one of each (colt and S&W) its easy to make a mistake. of Course when you get to Webleys, that's a different matter. Have quite a few of those.

The previous owner of the New Service scratched his name on the frame. Normaly that would be a Bubba, but not in this case. 2nd lt. J.P. Spowart R.E.
He survived the was as he is on the post war Army list.:)

One of my .455 New Services (c.1899) is engraved to "Paget's Horse".

Internet sources claimed this to be a "squadron" of the Bengal Lancers. Some of the last casualties of the Boer War were from this unit.

I traded away my Q.P. MkII on a.... New Service:rolleyes: Leaving a lonely MkVI.
