Hi All,

As titled - are there any gunsmiths in Canada specializing in S&W revolvers these days? It's been a few years since Murray Charlton got out of the game and honestly I was hoping we'd see someone come in and try to fill the void left in his absence. I can't seem to find any names in particular?

I am sure I will hear a lot of "Jason from Gunco in Ottawa" suggestions and I agree he could likely do some of the work I need, but he is a busy man! I'd like to see some other local talent if possible, who has been doing your double-action revolver work these days?

Looking forwards to the responses, best to all :)

(P.S. What kind of post would this be without some S&W pics? Enjoy my Model 29-2 and 1st Issue Ladysmith, previously posted in the "Big & Small" handguns thread)

Smith and Wesson has NO customer service in Canada!Been trying for months to get a screw for my model 29 and crickets. Been working with Wolverine and they've been great but still nada. Called S&W directly and they want nothing to do with me.So even if you find a gunsmith he will not be able to get any parts over here.Tried two local dealers around here and they told me the same..it's a wasteland baby!

Parts have been an issue for years now. I only got my SW revolver fixed because Grech was able to pull the parts needed off another gun a customer destroyed. It was still about 6 months FFS. I thought things would have improved when Wolverine took over.

Chris at Wolverine has been trying and is very helpful but there's not much you can do when S&W doesn't reply back. People are buying their PCC rifles and lever action rifles so I wonder if something breaks on those will they fix them?

Well it's disappointing to hear that S&W is not so different than most American manufacturer's warranty services in Canada, but not all too surprising I suppose.

What about smiths taking on custom work though? The guns I am looking to have work done on are much too old to be in the warranty ballpark...

Henry will actually acknowledge the fact that you are relevant and will work with you. Bent something on my Big Boy and they helped me out. Cudo's to their customer service. If I was in the market for another lever rifle it would be a Henry hands down!

Vulcan Gun Refinishing is the only one I know that specializes in old S&W and Colt wheel gun and their antiques, I forgot how many out of timing, cylinder end shakes, bent yoke revolvers they repaired over the years.

A local buddy sent his S&W to a guy in Winnipeg for conversion into a PPC revolver. New fat barrel, and other tuning, new sights. I can get the guy's name if you want. It was surprisingly fast turnaround.

Post it up! I'm curious about converting an N frame to 8 shot 9mm.

True revolver smiths are few and far between anywhere! I’ve had the pleasure of travelling around the world meeting the ones that are left through WA1500 (PPC) competition. For the past 15 years I’ve focused on building and tuning my own equipment and helping out other competitors simply out of necessity. Being a machinist for the past 30 years has afforded me this luxury. When I first started competing in PPC I was fortunate that my shooting coach who was a S&W armorer passed his tools, spare parts and knowledge onto me. What an exiting experience it’s been travelling the world competing! 15 years in and I’m still learning a few tricks??!
If you’re interested you can view the world ranking lists by googling WA1500. I believe Canada is still on top!

Regards
