Well I finally got out hunting coyotes for the first time this year. Had a hour or so to kill out at my buddies place so we grabbed our rifles, camo and calls and set up on the edge of a nice coulee. Called a couple times over a ten minute period and a lone female trotted in to about 80 yards. I made a nice head shot and that's where she fell. Feels good to get on the scoreboard and can't wait to get out again. Anyone else have success this weekend?

Just called 1 in

this past weekend in my 2nd stand. Did not shoot when I should have. Waited for him to get closer and he winded me. I let him go.

Hopefully things will change this coming weekend.

I just traded my shotgun in today for a Rem 700 SPS Youth in a .243 Winchester with a 20" barrel. I wanted something light and small to carry around. Cleaned it up, touched up the crown, adjusted the trigger, and mounted scope. Just to sight it in and away I go. Going to try the 62gr Barnes Grenades out. Going to load them down around 3200fps and see if they perform. I will load up some backup pills just in case.

Just finished prepping 20 pieces of new brass, straightend necks, chamfered, deburred ,and reamed primer pockets. Just to dump some powder and seat some bullets.

Got out today

for a bit. Weather was a bit nasty very strong winds for calling. Regardless, went out anyway. Made 3 stands and had no luck. Decided to carry on to my parents farm for a visit. Strapped on the snowshoes and went for a walk on the farm with the new .243 Win.

Walked across the home 1/4 to the edge of the large bush on the farm. Decided to let a howl out of my Dan Thompson howler. Low and behold got a reply then the hole litter started yoddling. Could tell they were getting excitied and coming my way. I hit the dirt and chambered a round. Waited a few minutes and then let out a few screams from my Circe P2 call. Here it came flat out directly for me. I should have waited to see if there were more with it but I was so pumped on adrenaline that I had to drop that one to see how the Grenades would fair. They faired very well, maybe to well. I let loose when it was about 100 or so yards out after it stopped to look for that other yote or rabbit. Put the crosshairs on its chest and let fly. THHHHHWAK.......
Then it did the usual run in a circle as fast as you can trying to catch its tail and fell over dead. I let another scream out hoping if there were more they would still come. No more.

The result of the Grenades was just that a Grenade. Big BeeJesus exit hole. I see I have to still load them down to save the pelts. Using 39grs of RE15. Will drop down to 38grs and see how they perform on the next yote.

Everybody tells me to big a gun for saving pelts. Well when I find the right load it will not be a issue. Far better bullets and balistics than the 17's and 22's.

I will always have a 6mm of some sort from now on. I shoot a 6PPC and a 6BR. Now a .243 Win. When I get tired of the .243 Win with a 20" barrel it will be here for sale. It will then wear a barrel chambered in 6PPC or 6BR in 20 inches.
