Hey guys,

I know It's early (like 7 hours into the Ontario season), but just want to know who got what this year. I can't get out until tmrw and am looking for motivation lol.

as always :needPics:

Looking forward to some opening day stories... Here is mine...

I did not have time to scout, so went in blind hoping for the best, I was hunting a conservation area in a marshy area. I am walking down the pathway and boom the thunderous gobble, so i walked into the forest 5 feet to a female turkey being scared out of the roost, so i sat down and chose my spot! I thought Id be out of luck scaring them away but as it got lighter I saw something in the tree ahead of me, A massive gobbler! Huge beard. I waited an hour for him to come down, he was gobbling in the tree, hoping he would fly down towards me, unfortunately he flew over my decoys and further away from me than i hoped. I spent some time calling hoping he would come back. His gobbles got further and further away so i eventually got up and moved closer, and finally i was back in range when BOOM.... Someone else shoots my turkey... dammit.. Saw three turkeys fly away over me, my day was over...

I saw some turkeys yesterday on Con 2, and today I almost ran down 2 deer right by navy hall, I think luck is on my side this season :)

My group took a jake and a real nice tom. I saw 13 birds early but no shooters in range of my double 10. The tom my buddy took was just shy of an 11" beard 1+" spurs and weighed 23lbs. Gorgeous tail fan on it. Only 3 vehicles of trespassers today on property that I have sole permission to hunt. Ill be back out saturday

Was out @ 5am, around 7 am after a series of calls a nice big tom walked within 8 yards of my 3 1/2 " Beretta. Boom dead 3 1/2" federal #4. 20 lbs 14 oz 7/8" and 1" spurs and a 8 1/8 " beard.
Got 2 more days off to hunt and bought another tag back at it in the am. 3 more adults around that I have seen and probabily 6 jakes.....

I shot over top of a jake with a 3" beard. Misjudged the yardage. Very exciting first hunt tho. Hopefully noone shoots hom by the weekend!

i can top that story.... i shot over a pair :( . the same two jakes were wandering around later in the afternoon so at least i know i didnt nick one or the other

back at it tomorow afternoon then friday and saturday..

Weird weather has the birds all screwed up, or maybe just me. Had two big strutters at 300 yards on a dead run, a real hen cut them off.

Going out for a quick hunt tomorrow morning. Got two gobblers roosted on an adjacent property just need to pull them from the many dozens of real hens that always over run me every year.

Absolutely... The crazy weather has them buzzed..

As much as it bothered me to do so I postponed holidays... Don't get me wrong, the birds are there... I am looking for more stable hunting so I will go out sunday...

Weird year so far... had to deal with SNOW... but all in all a good day... we hunted hard... eight different locations... our usual opening morning guaranteed gobbler spots drew a blank (snow?)... did a change-up, and got into birds immediately... three gobblers on the first spot, but backed out and left them for tomorrow morning (the shot was just a tad too long)... second spot called in three nice big mature toms (one is pictured below)... called in another tom on the next spot, but got busted... circled around and called him back in (or one of his buddies?)... hit two more locations without success and then on the last spot we worked three gobblers for an hour and a half, changing locations five times... moved in, moved out, circled around... and then finally with one minute of shooting left... we got in the other pictured bird, which my son promptly anchored... we have an awesome lineup for the morning... looking to tag out early (with luck).

Here's a couple opening day birds;

Birds are henned up like Crazy around me, also between today and yesterday morning I heard a total of 11 shots.

Had three strutters henned up at 70 yards, better than 120 like yesterday I guess, at this rate one more day and I will have them at 20.

With the numbers on this and adjacent properties It's only a matter of time.

Our group got a jake yesterday and one today. While cleaning the first bird around 9:30 at our camp yesterday we hear gobbling really close so I set up and my buddy called in the biggest tom I have ever seen. This bird was huge! I don't know how long the beard was but it was dragging on the ground!

The bird came in on a string running, then stopping to spit and fan out, then gobble before running a few more steps and repeating the performance. The bird was right on track to pass me at 10 feet through a 10'x10' clearing in the thick sapling forest. He was so close that when he fanned out it sounded like an umbrella being opened.

At 20 yards he took a left turn and as he went behind a big tree I swung the gun to the nearest clearing through the sapling jungle. He took a few steps and disappeared behind a large stump and I have no idea where he went from there.

We called him for another 30 minutes with him gobbling back but we didn't see him again and eventually he stopped reponding to calls. It was the bird's lucky day as he was well within range I just didn't think the pellets would reach him with all the saplings in the way and didn't want to risk losing him. All of this happened within 40 yards of our trucks and our hunt camp. I think he may have got nervous seeing the trucks.

I'll be back looking for him tomorrow or Saturday...

Not sure if it counts for anything but I got a coyote, a pair came in to my calling and I took the closest one with a face full of #4, it was a small male in good condition.

I had that opportunity this morning too. apparently my mouth calling needs work, I must have sounded like a dying hen. I'm glad I didn't though because when I spooked him off and he went tear-assing off through the bush it set off a chain of gobbles. Couldn't bring him into range, but I'll be back tommorow.
