Hi, recently bought a milsurp rifle with a bayonet.
Rifle is already cleaned.
Only thing left is the scabard.
Its in cosmoline and I can tell you there is alot of cosmo in the scabard.

Can someone give me some tips for cleaning the inside of the scabard ???

Any help appreciated :p

Yup, hot water, and before you do that, take a piece of wire or coat hanger with a small square of cotton or material on the end, to swab out the big stiff chunks like a large Q-tip.

is the scabard made of metal or leather ?
if metal any solvent (acetone, alcohol, mineral spirit, varsol....) should work or just place the opening down and heat it

if leather rap-it in towel and GENTLY heat it whit a air dryer ( when you wife/mom/girlfriend is not home )

and by the way what is the rifle and bayo ?

Wrap it in an old towel and use a laundry iron set on low. The grease will bubble out of the leather (I'm assuming it's leather, otherwise the suggestions above are spot on).

and by the way what is the rifle and bayo ?

I have two bayonets to clean...
First one is for my new Mauser M48A...
Second is a K31 Bayonet.

Both made in metal except a small leather strap on the K31 scabard...

So I think I will begin with hot water.
After a few ounces of acetone...shaking...
And then hot water again just to be sure :p

Thx guys for the tips !!!
I work all the weekend but I will do it monday morning

This threads reminds me of my M1 garand bayonet and wooden scabbard I put away after purchasing it back in 2001. For a whopping 400 dollars.

400 bucks...!!!
But when you think about it, how many of us have ever see a M1 Garand with a bayo ???
Can't raise my hand.
So it's certainly unusual.

I must say I know very little about these pieces of arts :p
I only know one thing about M1G... I want one...one day !!!

Can you post a pic of your Garand and Bayo...???

For you good sir I will.
Just give me a week :) I'll have the internet up and running.

I bought the M1 garand from a local shop. He called up a supplier selling danish M1's.. I could have bought an M1 sniper rifle too.. But it was 500-600 dollars? I thought 400 was too much at the time.

It came with a sling, M1 tool (gas screw driver, chamber brush), bayonet (flaming bomb marked) and wooden scabbard, some sort of belt clip, a US army M1 garand issue booklet. The dealer gave me about 20 en blocs too.

I only wish I bought 20 of them.

The barrel is a VAR barrel. Very good barrel too.

Sorry to hi jack.
