I've heard that the TOZ-78 is also imported into Canada, does anyone here own one? I am having a lot of fun with mine. U.S. distributors received a large shipment of these Russian rifles and they were selling them for $100 USD. Now, Winchester has struck a deal with TOZ and is importing a westernized version of the '78 for about twice the price of the original.

I think every Gunnutz has a TOZ 78. :p
They were going for $100 Cdn. at the time, best deal in a rimfire ever.
Great shooters. And I love the beech or birch or whatever the stock is.
I have one and I bought my son what was said to be the last one at the suppliers before they shut done.
Now that Winchester is bringing them in we have a source for parts I guess.

I used to own one.

They came in both birch and beech. Great little guns, got myself one and my brother one.

I think mine is a beech.. very light, orange color. Skirsons: I've got a pic of that TOZ mosin mock-up saved somewhere on my hard drive, are you the one that did the work?

At risk of repeating myself (same thread years ago ), there's an old story about two trees, a birch and a beech, in the forest arguing about the origin of a sapling growing up between them. They couldn't agree on whose offspring the sapling was so they summoned the local wood expert, the woodpecker, to pass judgement.
So the woodpecker does his thing and pronounces "It ain't no son of a birch and it ain't no son of a beech but that's the best piece of ash I ever sunk my pecker into".

Birch or beech, I love my TOZ.

Have one also, and a 99 (semi-auto TOZ), although the 99 has been out of action with a broken sear for over a year and no parts in sight, hopefully Winchester will fall in love with that model too one day.

It seems theres been a rash of sears, and other parts, breaking on the TOZ-99s. Tula might have to go back to the drawing board on that model.
