Any Walther SSP owners here?

I have an issue and I thought I would throw it out in case anyone else has experienced this. Every once in a while, maybe 10 times so far, the slide will not go all the way forward and I get a misfire.

If I open the slide, the bullet is still in the chamber and does not eject. I have to pry it out with my fingernail. This means the ejector is not gripping the rim of the bullet to pull it out because when the round was chambered, the slide did not close all the way forward.

I know the importance of the position of the first round in the clip and this is well documented by Walther. I also know to pull the slide all the way back and release it so it can properly chamber the first round.

If the clip is out, the action of the slide is very crisp and seems very normal. When the pistol chambers the first round, it feels 'mushy'. I thought maybe it was the ammo or the wax on the ammo. I am using Eley Sport .22 LR.

Has any other SSP owners experienced this?

I'd love to get a Walther SSP, but as much as I do, I realize it is the last firearm to be banned. I figure I'll get the ones hardest to get and the one most liekly to be banned first.

To answer your question, you'd best look to other forums, try some American or European target shooting forums.

1) Is your chamber clean?
2) Any lead/lube build up?
3) How new/old is your pistol?

and last but not least... Have you tried with different ammo? Some target guns are known to be picky with ammo.

As an example, the only time I have trouble with the GSP is right after cleaning it... and takes 1-2 box for things to settle down again...

It's new, under 400 rounds. I tried some different ammo and was more conscious of letting the slide snap closed for the first round. Matbe it might have been me just getting used to it.

Thanks

I have one and sometimes it does not close all the way when I release the slide - so I have started to give it a little push after it closes to make sure it has closed. I use CCI std vel which is not greasy. Mine doesnt even have 500 through it so maybe it will losen up?

Mine is behaving flawlessly now. I have about 1500 rounds of RWS Target Pistol through it now. RWS was one of the recommended ammo by the distributor for Walther.

You are welcome to try the RWS at the Owen Sound club if you are over that way.
