Looking for some help figuring out a friends rifle. According to the serial # it is a model 62A...however the stock says other wise.
There are no markings on the barrel, it only will chamber 22 short which makes it a gallery gun..however the stocks say 1890 rifle. But it doesn't have an octagon barrel. It also doesn't have the triangle shaped loading port normally seen on gallery guns.

I am by no means an expert but I do have a 62A so I will offer my opinion for what it's worth. One thing I have found is that there are no official serial number records from Winchester so any serial number information you find may not be entirely accurate. That said:

"Approximately 849,000 Model 1890 rifles were produced between 1890 and 1932, after which the Model 1890 was replaced by the Winchester Model 62 rifle. A final cleanup of stock on hand was completed in 1941.[2]" (Wikipedia, 2. "The History of Winchester Firearms 1866-1992" By Thomas Henshaw)

So is it possible it was made between 1932 and 1941 using a mix of model 1890 and 62 parts but would then have a serial number reflecting model 62 production?

well that would make sense of all the miss matched parts.
