Any workshops in 2017 in Ontario @ long range shooting?

We had a LR clinic and practice at MilCun last weekend. Blackflies in Haliburton in the springtime. Who would have thought? When the hail started mid-afternoon on Sunday, at least the black flies were suppressed.
Take a good look at the schedule, see if there is anything you might be interested in.
Please note that some of the scheduled activities are limited to police or security personnel.
MilCun is a professional operation. osacanada.ca is the club that shoots at MilCun.

Thank you for the link. I contacted them a while back and they did mention they are not for general public... In addition, they require all shooters to be a club members and have liability insurance through a club. So, that pretty much means they are not open for public and general folks who are not club members.

You have to have insurance. Member of NFA, CSSA etc? Guests can participate in OSA events.

Sign up for the week long, Long range rifle course at Milcun. Be prepared to learn at the feet of the masters, and reduce your learning curve by about three years. Now you can start shooting long range. All you need is a decent factory rifle that will shoot .5 MOA at 100, and a very good/reliable scope, safe ammunition, and a willingness to learn. Keith and Linda will teach you the rest. It will be the best money you ever spent.

I am not a member of any club(as we all know, wait lists are up to 3 years) and a very occasional new shooter. If I am to go to Milcun, where would I get insurance? What does it cost? It's strange that a range doesn't require any insurance and they do...

Day use ranges charge a fee; the fee includes insurance for the day.
Join CSSA, NFA, etc., and you will have insurance coverage.
If you are an occasional new shooter, professional instruction and coaching would get you started on the right track.

There's a range near Houton Lake in Michigan that you might give a try. Its a long range facility and they run training over the summer.
Just get a ATF form 6 NIA before crossing the Border.

I think it might be Houton Lake Sportsman Club... if not, they would know who, because the range is right near there if it's not them.

Address: 2929 Tower Hill Rd, Houghton Lake, MI 48629, United States

Phone: +1 989-422-3987

If you get a form 6 and are clear to go the USA there's also a range in Ypsilanti Michigan called Washtenaw Sportmans Club that shoots to 600 yards and its a good group of guys that you can learn from. It's quite a nice facility and worth the trip at least once.

Thank you for the info. For now I don't plan to go that far, but perhaps sometime in the future.

I did my first long range shooting at Hungry's PR clinic in Petawawa, out to 600 and on paper I was happy. Been back several times and will be going to more. Have a look at the PR threads in his CGN forum Tactical Teacher.

the course of fire is based on the DCRA National Service Conditions Championship.

A good intro to this shooting at a very low cost.

Thank you!!! Didn't see that!

Take the week long course at MilCun, I did it several years ago and had a blast! (Pardon the pun!) Keith and Linda are incredible, I have been back there for several matches and LR practices and even had the pleasure of Linda being my spotter once--don't doubt her wind calls, just dial what she says and shoot! Insurance is easy, just join the OFAH, its less than $100 for the year and it covers just about any outdoor activity. Good luck!

Tactical Teacher... get in touch with him. He is top notch even if his jokes are a bit lame :p . Hah.

I was about to sign up,but it was canceled. Very unfortunate. :(

If anyone knows about similar events coming up between now and September, please let me know.

There is a MilCun Precision/Sniper Competition Course followed by a match, course is Aug 15-18, match on the 19th. Four full days of professional instruction, then the match.

TAKE THIS! Sign up now!

Join CSSA so you have your insurance/liability covered.
Email Milcun, and register for the course Tiriaq noted above.

Do you have a reliable scope on your rifle? If not make the investment now, so you have a successful week.

Make up some high quality ammo if you reload already, or spend some cash on very good quality/match grade factory stuff. Remember you will be shooting out to 1000 yards, crappy ammo will give you crappy results downrange.

You will spend a week, with Keith and Linda, who are fully committed to getting you trained up and shooting. You will start by getting properly set up/fitted with your rifle, they will teach you how to shoot from the prone position and do it well. You will learn about all the associated kit that goes with the rifle to make you a successful shooter. You will have fun doing it.

Keith and Linda will correct, and help you eliminate any bad habits you may have, and keep any new ones from forming. You will shoot every day. You will begin to learn about reading the wind and how to call your shots. You will learn to shoot with a spotter, and that cheap spotting scopes are worthless.

You will learn how to shoot to the NSCC Precision (Sniper) Match's that take place every year, and have the chance to compete with high level shooters. You can shoot Nationals this year if you were so inclined. You will have fun doing it.

You will reduce your learning curve by about three years, and get world class instruction, on a beautiful range, in the Canadian wilderness, all right here in beautiful Ontario, just south of Minden.

Seriously, Let us know when you sign up!
