Anybody ever build a 7mm-375 ruger?

I'm interested in getting one built, just wondering if anyone has experience with it? I like the 7mm dakota but the ruger should be about the same case capacity with a regular magnum bolt face and cheaper brass. Although that may be a bit of a process to neck .375 to .284.

7mm-375 Ruger

I was googling that just yesterday. Got a few hits from other forums with pros and cons mentioned. Would it not be pretty close to 7mm-300win mag or weatherby mag with easier forming? Lots of talk on 338-375 Ruger which to my mind would be a good one. PTG can probably do a reamer for whatever you need. Let us know if you take the plunge and good luck.

I've checked out the 7mm lrm but I'm still interested in hearing from someone who's got one built. Those gunwerks rifles look beautiful but what a price tag!

I believe the 7mm-375 ruger or 7 lrm would be similar to stw capacity but with the shorter fatter powder column and no belt makes a more efficient cartridge and ###ier looking :) Almost identical to the dakota but with a normal bolt face.

Maybe I should give the STW more credit but I understand that the STW is difficult to to shoot accurately at the high end. I would think that the shorter powder column would alleviate some of those issues.

Would you be giving up very much if you just built a 7mm Remington Ultra Magnum, necking down, neckturning
no fire forming brass ??
Brass is available

I've chosen to stay away from the 7 rum because it's soooo overbore. If you look in the hornady manual, the 7 dakota can push a 175gr bullet at 3000 fps with 77.6 gr rl 25. The 7 rum will require 85.9gr rl 25 to do the same and it will top out at 3100. I don't think the extra little bit of performance is worth the extra powder, heat, and recoil. How ever, if you follow the same logic, the 7 wby will do it with 73.8gr rl 25 with a wby rifle and freebore.

IMHO the ruger and dakota cases have a lot to offer with the shorter fatter belt less design with out being as grossly overbore as the RUM. They're still overbore just not AS overbore :D

Try R P S International at Spruce Grove AB. He has been working with this wildcat, and posts about it on the AO site under the name precision shooter.

i have no dificulty shooting very very tiny groups with my stw .... some of my best groups included very large amounts of imr 7828 or h5010 .

one of the biggest draw backs of such a overbored round is barrel life , so you don't see alot of guys shooting paper , but rather save the barrel for actual hunting .

I've been curious about the stw for awhile now. I've been interested in the ruger and dakota cartridges because of the lack of belt and the shorter fatter powder column but the stw has readily available brass, dies and data and most serious gunsmiths should have the reamer. I've got experience with many, many 7mm's but not the stw dakota or rum. Since I have a plethora of 7mm rem's around maybe a re-chamber would be in order and I can see for myself what the stw can do!........... I have the perfect candidate sitting here, a TC Icon in 7 mag would make a dandy stw I think.

There are no new wildcats - everything including the 7mm-375 has been done.

If you want/need:

- 3100 fps with a 175gr 7mm bullet - choose at least a 7mm RUM (or a wildcat equivalent);
- 3000 fps with a 175gr 7mm bullet - choose at least a 7mm STW (or a wildcat equivalent);
- 2800 fps with a 175gr 7mm bullet - choose at least a 7mm Rem Mag (or a wildcat equivalent);
- 2600 fps with a 175gr 7mm bullet - choose at least a 7mm Mauser (or a wildcat equivalent);
- etc

This walk about avoiding "overbore", "greatly overbore", or "grossly overbore" cartridges amuses me. A hunting gun might get shot 20 times a year, so even if the "hunting grade" accuracy of your "grossly overbore" round is only 500 rounds, that still gives you 25 years of hunting use. They use extra powder, but does anyone seriously choose the 7mm Rem Mag over the 7mm STW by virtue of saving $3 a year on powder? You spend hundreds on a gun and then fret over brass that costs $0.50 more per cartridge?

Let's not forget this either: the 7mm-375 might only equal the 7mm STW, but you need to factor in its slight "coolness" edge over the 7mm STW when deciding.

The 7RM will hit 3000fps with a 175gr bullet. The STW will go about 3150fps, and the RUM will drive it even faster. The 7-375 Ruger should also see about 3150fps.
