So I picked up this SRC today, and As im cleaning off 4 lbs of yellow grease, I notice the sight is hinged! What is it from do you think......I can't see it being original, but I've been wrong before! Its a SRC in 30WCF, dates to 1914

Thanks, I used to have one( I'm fairley sure) got for a 10th or 11th birthday present. It was an old indian gun, that an old Indian had carved a scene of a man on horse back into the buttstock. I loved that flip-up sight although I think mine went to 300 yds.
 
As NAA said they can be seen commonly on the 1894 SRC of which yours appears to be. On the left of the receiver there is a "stud" where a ring is supposed to be. It appears your rifle is missing the ring.
 
The old savages lever guns had them too. I am looking at trading off my Lyman peep site for one of these of an 1892 Winny since I can see a bit better with the open site.
The gentlemen said they were fairly common back in the day.
 
It's not that common now, and the sight is collectable, and valuable.
They've (The rear sight alone) been selling on ebay in the $180.00 US range.
I think they were more common on the 1892.
I had one on mine, but someone in the past had broken, and brazed it up, destroying it totally.
 
My 1927 SRC has one.

In fact I have to use it, with the "slider" up about 1/4 of the way to get the gun to shoot on at 25 yards.

Otherwise it shoots low.

Thats amazing, and good to know!. What would you suggest I list this gun at? I'm more of a Marlin guy.......:redface: and need some cash for a Marlin 336 in .356 winchester.

My dad has one on a 30 30 of his. It was the only one I'd ever seen. Until now. I never knew they were so common.

Standard sight for M1892 and 94 carbines until 1920s. Does it have the crossed pennants DCP stamp on the barrel just ahead of the receiver?
 
Prices on Winchester 94's are in flux right now, (Ie escallating) as a result of the plant closure. I suggest you go to a couple of gun shows, and check out what guns in similar condition are going for. Or check with either Manea, or Doug.
 
Iwas at the Orangeville gun show today, I saw a good number of these sights on '94s. I'd say half a dozen. prices for the guns ranged from $700 (most were around 700) to one listed at $1400.
All of these guns I think are in better shape than the one you have pictured, they looked to be all original, but, were far from pristine.
