So I had a free night tonight, wife out for school meeting, and I had a particularly rough day at work myself, so I thought I should reward myself. :p

So cracked open a nice Pale Ale and decided, I'm going to master the field strip of my Ruger Mark III 22/45. :D Its a fairly new unit, the little brown envelope inside the case stating that it was made in 2008, and the person I bouught it from testifying that he didn't really shoot it much.

So...it was tight...pulling out that mainspring unit. But really, that was the toughest part of disassembly (No I did not hammer the barrel out, that's for another day. Truth be told, I don't think that's a big deal :p) Since I had it apart, I gave it a good cleaning with Gunzilla and my Patchworm kit. Ah the joys of cleaning. Lotsa black stuff, soon to be no more. Sprayed it all liberally and wiped it down till squeeky clean. Fired up the old compressor and blew out the lowers...lots gritty stuff there, like sand everywhere

Anyway, the fun part...putting it back together. I followed all the online guides, point gun up, slot magazine in, dingleberry and cheese  What a pain:mad: Then I found this little gem. Followed his video and BAM, it was that easy! Johnny Buzzkill, hahah, whatta handle eh. :D

Just to prove that it wasn't a fluke, I took apart the gun and put it back together 5 times more. Just for the heck of it. :D Then to add to it all, I found a small bottle of model colour No 773 Orange Fluoro and painted the front sight with a toothpick. I've been meaning to get a HiViz on the cheap and put out a WTB in the EE, but no luck. I cant wait to try out my freebie fix to my aging eyes.

Well, that about sums up my night with my Ruger Mark III 22/45. What have you done with yours lately?:)

I just picked up a Mark III hunter today and have yet to take her apart but thanks for the tips... hope to do at least a few hundred rounds thru it in the AM.

On maybe my second attempt to tear mine apart, I somehow got everything jammed up. Mainspring, trigger....the works. Wiggle things this way....nope. How 'bout that way....still nope. I eventually had to drive out the pins and dump the guts on the table. To this day I don't know what I did, but I had her bound up good. I forget the website I found to do the reassembly (at work right now) but it was really good. Nice clear pics and discriptions.

Actually, it was following this guy's instructions that I somehow almost got into the same jam as you did. For some absolutely weird reason, I could not get the damn pin of the mainspring in!! Then I really forced it in, and it went almost all the way, but the little button would not pop out (you know what I mean). The scary part was, then, I could not get it out!! Sounds like your problem eh?

I finally managed to muscle it out, and remembered the youtube video. Looked it and followed it step-by-step. BAM, it worked like a charm. No shaking, wiggling or anything. Like I said, I couldn't believe it, so I tried it many times after that. Watch the video, where he says "the key, is to put the magazine in, and point it upwards and pull the trigger at the same time. THAT's what made it smooth like butter!

The guntalk website offers very clear instructions. And if (or rather when) I decide to upgrade to a Volquartsen extractor/trigger/sear etc, I will definitely follow that guys' instructions. For a simple disassembly/reassembly procedure though, buzzkill's video just gives you the goods. And it works. :)

When Ruger published the mannual, they forgot to mention the little tidbit about putting the magazine in and pulling the trigger so you can lower the hammer!!!!!

When I first read the tag line I had a sense of dread! I took my 22/45 apart and had a coronary when it wouldn't go back together. Luckily Scott, m39a2, was able to set me right with the caveat, and quite loudly, "Don't take it apart again!!" Many hundreds if not thousands of rounds later it still runs like, well, a Ruger!
