Looking for some feedback on the Anschutz 1761 before pulling the trigger on a purchase, anyone here have one or has shot one ?
Fit and finish and especially accuracy is what I am looking for, thanks in advance for your comments !

Howard: Go to Rimfire central. I have started a thread about the 1761 there some time ago. Quite a loy of infos there.

Skwerl,
I currently own 3 Anschutz ( 54 action ) but I am also thinking of getting a 1761 in the future as my curiosity is aroused. I have never even held one in hand up to now. I am certain Glenn will chime in with some more infos. To my knowledge he has not bought one yet though.
Regards
Gilbert

A year ago I had the privilege to range test a 1761 in a sporter style stock. Rifle from Nordic Marksman. I mounted a Sightron 36x SII scope that I had bought from Hirsch Precision. I used a Caldwell soft 9" high front bag and Protector brand rear bag. The range was outdoors, 50yds, temp 7C, overcast with light winds of 5-10km.
The fit and finish of the rifle was as per Anschutz quality. I own several Annies, and this one is as nice as any. I would have preferred to shoot the thumbhole stock that has a flatter forend. I just prefer the flatter bottom. This one had the more rounded sporter style. Just a matter of taste. The stock was nice walnut and nice deep bluing. The new action design is smooth with short throw and lower 60deg lift. The trigger was great; it broke clean. I shot it without any changes to it. I really like the new magazine style. It is so much easier to release the magazine. I think this rifle makes for a competitive rifle shooting in any sporter benchrest shoots. Getting pretty close to accuracy of the 54 sporter series. Of course , they sport Anschutz barrels. They 1700 series cost more, and you do get more, but this rifle has good value, and it shoots.

I fired numerous types of ammo. It shot them all quite well. I went for 10 shot groups and no extra fouling shots between brands nor extra cleaning. Ammo was bought from Nordic Marksman.
Ammo shot: SK Biathlon 0.487", SK Pistol Match 0.700"' SK Flatnose Basic 0.548", SK Flatnose Match 0.461", Lapua Biathlon Polar 0.520", RWS SemiAuto 0.776", and Eley Match 0.474". Measurements are c/c.
Then , since I had some IBS style 50 BR targets ( 0.50" bulls), I shot them. I did not have the full target which is 25 bulls, but each was 19bulls. One scored 190x9 of total 190x19 score with Center-X. The other scored 185x5 with SK Rifle Match. I had two unexplained flyers...an 8 and a bad 7! lol
So, I hope this short report will give you some idea about this new Anschutz model. For further technical details check the Anschutz site or Nordic Marksman..

As the 1761 is a relatively new model, there's not a great deal of information outside of Anschutz available.

Some very good information is available on RFC. For a detailed review by a shooter experienced with Anschutz rifles complete with pictures of details of the 1761, see this thread on RFC

Another thread is the one referred to above by Gilbert h t t p s ://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1182679
And for the first RFC thread relating to the rifle, see h t t p s ://www.rimfirecentral.com/forums/showthread.php?t=1154449

I just picked up a 1761 sporter 22LR. The fit and finish is what you'd expect on a gun of this value. No complaints. I haven't shot it yet. Waiting for my new scope to come in. The ten round mag should be available fairly soon according to Anshcutz. If you are looking Clay at Prophet river took great care of me.

I was debating which route to go for a 17 HMR gopher gun......

Anschutz 1761 vs 1517

In the end I went with the more traditional styling of the 15XX rifle.

Though the ability to switch barrels was tempting since I cant use 17 HMR at the indoor range. (Would be good to swap it over to 22 LR when gophers are gone and practice indoors during winter).

I bought one of the first ones...got the thumb hole stock..put an Anschutz KK50 scope on it..very happy with the rifle and its accuracy...my S&B KK50 scope just arrived and I will replacing the Anschutz scope.

See below for range report
