Anybody in Canada still able to rebore a rifle?

I've got a spare 7.62x39 CZ 527 barrel, and I want to rebore it to 10mm/.400". Is there anybody left who can still rebore a barrel? Would really rather to do it this way, as then I can keep the rather intricate contours of the carbine barrel, and the forgings for the sight etc. Could consider a liner I suppose too, prefer a rebore naturally though if possible.

"...rebore it to 10mm..." Likely not enough steel. You'd be removing 89 thou from the thickness of the barrel. You'd have to alter the bolt face and the mag too.

Actually, you'd be removing .045" from the the thickness, .090" total. You probably meant that but I'm an ass.

Plenty of steel there, ever looked at a 10mm pistol barrel? Actually, I wouldn't be surprised if you hadn't. As for the bolt face for the 10mm is almost identical to the 7.62x39, the rim is also almost precisely the same dimension, and the body is very, very close to 7.62x39 body dimensions, just straight wall. 10mm also fits in the 7.62x39 single stack CZ527 mag perfectly. Once again, sunshine, please keep your opinions to yourself unless you actually know what you're talking about. It gets old fast. I'll still never forget when I was a newby here and posted a question about .338 Lapua LR rifles and you told me to get a Garand. Says it all! Cheers! :)

Last time I talked to him about a rebore, he was pricing it at very near the same cost as a new barrel blank, but the owner of the barrel was footing the bill one way or the other, success wise.

Fair enough. Not his steel to start with, and circumstances beyond his control, and all that.
That said, I've heard that he has the gift with this sort of stuff, and if it can be done, he'll be the one to do it.

Yes, hammer forged is bad for cutting rifling. That's why it's impossible for someone to rebore a sako for you. 10mm blanks are available from Numrich. Not too many rifle smiths would be tooled for 10mm anyway. Lots will take shot-out .38-40's to .44-40 but the .38-40 is already a .401-.402 diameter. There is no parent cartridge to take-out to .38-40. I was contemplating getting steve holborne to do the same work out in Warren. I have a N0.4 Mk2 that I have adapted a Destroyer Carbine mag well to for 10mm. it fits and feeds in the 9x23 mag with a little alteration, and believe-it or not the destroyer front-guard screw lines-up with the enfield! This is going into a 1 piece stock. I was going to get a blank from Numrich, but it's such a pain now. I have the Clymer 10mm chambering reamer and a .38-40 take-off I can sleeve into the enfield breech, but it's all a pain.

Well Ardent...When you find out rather or not Mt. Smith will do hammer forged barrels or not please let us know...I just bought a Rem 700 in 22-250 and was planning on having him bore it out to a 250-3000...

From Peterson's RIFLE magazine an article on Cliff La Bounty a renouned reborer claims BRNO and Sakos were a no go and destroyed the tooling.There can also be hard spots on Win or Rem barrels were it cuts nice for aways them chatters ruining the rest.It's hit or miss.TD Sav 99's were no problem reboring .22 HP to 30-30 etc............Harold
