Hi guys,

I am still somewhat new to the forum but I have purchased a couple of pieces from fellow members. I was hoping to connect with some Greater Toronto Area members who have acreage who might be amenable to letting me do some target shooting on their property. I have an SKS but I'm not into hunting belonging to a club. Would love to meet some like minded people who could offer some suggestions.

If there is a better section in the forum please let me know.

All the best.

Adam

I don't mean to be a jerk, but asking about acreage in the GTA seems extremely optimistic. I'd also wager that if you were able to find some, that was truly in the GTA, there would by a bylaw prohibiting it.

You'll likely have to drive a while to find somewhere to shoot that isn't a club.

Join a range. Best answer I could give. Shooting a sks off season pisses the neighbours off and the land owner hears it and then any one that asks get a big no.

Join the gun club. We let walk-ins to our shotgun and skeet area in Guelph gun range.
You might get to know some one to take you to rifle and pistol shooting. Don't try GTA idea.

Ranges are super ghey, most are filled with power tripping fudds who get off on ####ing young members up the ass, honestly, no lube no dinner just straight to ass ####ing. I share your resistance to ranges, I will never join one again. If you want to enjoy your sks within an hour of the gta you're in for a lot of disappointment. It's possible, you just have to ask your friends and family, no one on the Internet will give up their spot, or take you to it for the fear of losing it.

I will however share one with you that I used when I had nowhere else. On highway 6 south right outside of flamborough there is a conservation area that allows shooting it's located on Safari road, about 6km west of highway 6. as long as you don't go full retard you should be ok there at this time of the year.

There is crown land an hour and a half drive north of Toronto. No houses around so no pissed off neighbors.

There has been a few articles in the paper about Safari. Walkers and conservations workers are constantly
picking up bags of empty shells.. They are wanting to close it for target practice and maybe hunting! People are ruining that spot!

Sadly , that is what usually happens.....a few ruin it for everyone else by leaving garbage and spent casings laying around when they are finished shooting.....

No surprise. The people who are incapable of living within the basic rules of a shooting range shouldn't be expected to conduct themselves responsibly when they shoot on publicly-owned property. It's only a matter of time now that it's been posted on-line. It will be a magnet for every guy with a gun within driving distances who wants a place to shoot with no rules.

Then my rabbit hunting will be ruined haha

Exactly!! X2

"Target shooting" in conservation areas in southern ontario is an effective way to get them closed to hunting.

A conservation area may be ok for hunting, but not likely for target shooting with .30 cal centre fire rifles. What backstop will you have? How will you ensure that there are no hikers down range, and none will walk onto your "range"?

This never ends well.

As noted, people who are adverse to shooting on a range are unlikely to be fully prudent and careful to shoot responsibly anywhere.

Guys used to sight in hunting rifles for decades at Nonquon (a provincial tract, there are spots with backstops). Word got out on the Internet about a neat shooting spot there, it got flooded with guys shooting anything anywhere, and they managed to get the spot shut down for target shooting. Huzzah!

If anyone knows of a safe, out of the way shooting spot within an hour or two of the GTA, fer cripes sakes, don't post it on the Internet unless you want it closed in short order.

Ranges are your best bet.
