Just wondering if anyone has bought powder that required to be shipped lately. Last time I recieved powder shipping was normal shipping rate (around $30) plus a hazmat fee of $25 or $30. Tried to order powder from a retailer Im Ontario and the “shipping calculated at checkout” came to just under $400 (so I cancelled the order). This was for 9lbs. Has shipping changed that much in the last 3 years???

My last black powder order, 1lb, single jug of powder, the shipping cost more than the powder. Basically nobody wants to handle it so your choices are the couple couriers that will handle it, stack on some carbon prices and hazmat fees and you get that nonsense.

One LGS store told me the only real economical way for them to bring it in now is via LTL. With the downsides being you need to bring in a skid of product. Then being stuck with them having thousands of dollars in inventory in order to make it sellable to the customer. I tried ordering online a year ago and for the price of shipping, I could have picked up another pound of powder locally.

Yeah I unfortunately have also found its not feasible to get it shipped.
I'm very fortunate to have a few options here in Calgary to drive to and purchase.
Can Tire has been my go to for a while.
They had a sale on powder a week ago so stocked up.
Hard to believe $80-90/lb is a "sale" now. Yeesh

You guys out west are fortunate to have CDN tire as another option. In Ontario you're lucky if they have a crappy selection of loaded ammo in stock. I couldn't believe the multiple aisles of shooting and gun stuff at the Western locations I've visited.

I had no idea CT had powder. which store was it? Its so frustrating that it isnt on their websites so I never know if it's on sale or not.

Can tire on McLeod trail has an excellent reloading section.
Primers/powder and projectiles.
Each store stocks reloading supplies differently as they are chosen by the local owner, so you never know what store will have what and won't be on line.
Red Deer had a good selection last time I was there (10yrs ago)
I haven't been there but heard Lethbridge has a good selection too.
Hope that helps you out!

All depends on the location. No reloading gear at my local CT.

I haven't ordered powder in a few years but it wasn't CRAZY expensive to ship when I did. OP did you try contacting the retailer? Sometimes the online shipping calculators do really stupid things and don't represent the real world cost.

Up here, Yukon, CT doesn’t carry any gun anymore, no reloading supplies what so ever either!! Sad

YYC vendor we use will only ship powder with UPS, best option for today
they had what we were after, but out of stock on several

you can wait for a sale all you want, I'm going shooting

If you live in Calgary, the mcloed trail and south land CT has a fantastic firearms and reloading section. Pretty much every bullet nosler or hornady has to offer.

Edit I see scotteboy beat me to it!

I don't know where you are but I bet if you and some friends went in you could fill a pallets worth for the LGS pretty quick. Bonus for him and you. I've done it with freeze dried food and tents for customers in the past. The inventory lands and is out of the store pretty much right away. Or check the options above for the small orders.
