Been eying one of these at wanstalls for a bit. I love the look of 870s but my experience has been that they just arent as good as Mossbergs.

Anybody own one of these and if so any issues?

I bought three 870 Police shotguns in the last 3 years.

They are designed to be more reliable than the Express models ... but from my experience are not as well finished as recent Express models ... i.e. the cosmetics. That is my experience. It seems Remington has improved on the finishing of the Express model in recent years.

One example is that none of the barrels on these 3 Police models were polished on the inside. I could feel the tool marks on the inside of the barrel with my little finger. And when shooting slugs the result was excessive leading ....

However, I still prefer the Police model .... at least they are functioning out of the box. The 870 Police models aren't the most beautiful guns .... but they are solid work horses.

My experience is the exact opposite of 0faustus0. I have a couple of Police 870’s and they’re beautifully finished. Matter of fact, they’re both smoother than my Wingmaster.

I love the 870 Police varieties!

I have owned Remingtons, Browning and Winchester shotguns along with a variety of Turkish and Russian ones. For pumps, the BPS was the most solid. The older Remingtons were ok though the latest one I just bought (20 gauge) is a rattle can. Nice stock though (express model). Remington went back to walnut from laminate. However, I just acquired a Hatsan (for sh!@$ and giggles) and holy smokes, fit/finish and function is much better than the Remington. Easy take down, polished internals, very solid action. For the price they're a steal.
Time will tell how well it performs on an ongoing basis. I understand there are not many mod parts for these though therefore advantage Remington in that department. In fact, it's hard to beat the 870 for availability of aftermarket bits and pieces.

cheers

^ pretty much

you only get the following

-Alittle better QC and only a little (now a days)....
-Parkerized finish, which is a huge bonus over the crappy blued finish
-Milled extractor, which I don't see any advantage
-Heaver mag and hammer spring, these are good to have
-Pot metal trigger mech, not sure if this is any better than polymer...

Thats about it...

I would still buy a 870P over an express, just for the parkerized finish. The blued sandblasted finish of the express is the worlds greatest rust sponge.
