I bought a brand new Para 16-40 Ltd in December 2005.

In my first two IPSC matches at CTVSP in Jan and Feb, the gun jammed several times, FTE. Some thought I was limp wristing, others thought the extractor felt a little loose. 2 other members experienced some FTE problems, ruling out limp wrist. The club's gunsmith looked at it, but the problem didn't improve today.

Some have said Para's extractor design is crap, or unproven at best. Has anyone else had these problems. I hate the feeling of losing confidence in this pistol

How many rounds have you put thru it? Many 1911's require a minimum of 500 rounds to really break the gun in. If that isn't the case I would be contacting Para and seeing what they were going to do to correct it. From all I've heard they are a first rate company so they should stand behind their product.

Wow - I was just reading a magazine article about the power extractor and the author just raved about it (don't they all). The example that got me was when he scored the brass before firing the gun, and, as I understand it, when he fired that round the extractor ripped the case trying to extract the round (?). Please keep us updated on this one (first case I have seen or heard about so I am hoping this was is not a common problem...)

Doid your Para came with a shock buff? Was it intalled in the quide rod when you had the FTEs?
Para's stock recoil spring is really heavy (16-18 lbs).
Are you using a reloaded round?
The above factors can cause FTE especially on rounds reloaded on weak side.

Para mags could easily be the culprit and the first place I would look. Get yourself some McCormick Power mags and see how the gun functions. I have the SSP with the Power Ext. and the gun works flawlessly. I doubt it has anything to do with the extractor. Anything can break but the PXT has been out for awhile now and aside from some early production problems where they were breaking it hasn't been an issue over the last year or so. Contact G. Wege at para he will solve your problems for you.
