First post, greetings from Southern Ontario, land of the "I can't pay my mortgage."

Anyways, since yours truly decided to imprison my AR15 in the gun safe, I have been looking for another good semi-auto that's similar but different enough to be useful if the ban gets repealed sometime in the future. So, I chose a PCC. While I love the FX9 as much as anyone else, the PCC offering from Kodiak Defense is enticing. First off, it's in stock, so I could buy one tomorrow. It has many of the features of the FX9, such as AR15 controls, buffer tube, grips, and it takes Glock mags. However, it is also about $400 cheaper than the FX9.

Here's a link if you want to take a look for yourself: https://firearmsoutletcanada.com/kodiak-defense-k9-carbine-9mm-18-7-k9-nsr-.html

Has anyone owned one of these? Am I missing something? It looks like a pretty versatile PCC to me.

Welcome to CGN!

I didn't know they were down around $1000, that's actually a pretty good option now especially if you also get the short (restricted) upper available direct from Kodiak: KODIAK SHORT UPPER LINK

Here's a recent CGN thread on the K9: CGN THREAD LINK

Also, this group on FB: FB LINK
Thanks for the warm welcome, will take a look at the FB group. I should have taken a better look for an existing thread on the gun. :)

Welcome, I am new as well. I have been looking at the Reddit forums on this as I am interested in getting my first PCC- I have it narrowed down to 3. The JR Carbine, Smith and Wesson FPC, and the K9. Not a lot reviews yet on the K9, but the ones that are out, people seem to like them!

Welcome to PCC land.
As for the current state of the PCC Canadian market, there is lots to choose from. First ask yourself what it is you want to do with said PCC. If its just range plinking, the S&W FPC, a Sub2000, or a Ruger PC Carbine will probably suffice. If you are looking for possible competitive endeavors then I would be looking a little higher up the food chain, starting with FX9 & K9. Both a good start, but both need a bit of working in and tuning. If you are a bit of a baller take a look at the Raven 9, but be forewarned, they like to eat firing pins and the company owner is a bit of a difficult fella and you will still need to do some tuning. Next is the high end bling bling level which is dominated by all the B&T's APC 9, SPC9, GHM9 in all their different configurations). Awesome fit and finish, but you need a new trigger... a little disappointing seeing at they run $3000-$5000.

I personally run a Ruger pc carbine that is almost not a Ruger pc carbine anymore, and a tricked out 16" fx9 that runs amazing after about $500 worth of tuning.

My suggestion is buy the best you can afford and shoot the hell out of it. Its an addiction...so be ready for the cravings.

Cheers,
ACD

Never owned one of these but going off every other piece of #### they’ve made I’d pass, much better options in my opinion. What the ####s with that magwell, looks really tight to the grip, mag changes look crowded

lol, don’t hold back, tell us how you feel about this carbine that you have absolutely no experience with 😂
That magwell is a real problem,,,, unless you can operate at the same skill level as my 9 year old grandson who doesn’t seem to have any problem with it 😜

I've got about 500 rounds of 115 and 124 grain fmj through mine without any failures to feed or eject. My son bought a used K9...not sure of original round count but his is running great as well.

Good day:

610 rounds through sample of one K9.
Pros:
Seems to be reliable. 115s and 124s FMJ all run ok so far. Win and blazer and I think some random stuff were all OK.
Grouping Accuracy is strangely very good. I side by sided an FX9, and the K9 was slightly better.
Ergos are good. Magwell is shaped very well for speedy reloads. Mag button and bolt hold open are good.
Not very snappy, so this is easy for new shooters.
Handguard I think is just about the perfect length.
Not too many sharp edges, so carrying it on your back will likely be OK (I'm looking at you spectre, atrs and bcl)

Cons:
The fasteners need to be maintained. The handguard screws come loose. Tighten, mark or locktite the ones you don't plan to take off. Careful with the screws as the allen heads are very tiny and seem likely to strip.
Ejector also needed locktite as it loosens.
Spits gas into your face. Probably would benefit from a gas buster charging handle (is standard spec) and you need to always wear eyepro.
Doing press checks is odd as the bottom of the case rim isn't supported, so if you come too far back, you will jam up as the case tips too far.
Someone says these are heavy; they aren't really. If the barrel was thinner, it would probably get way too hot.
I think it came with a knockoff / airsoft mission first stock which the plastic chipped, so I replaced it.
The trigger reset is odd as it's kinda clunky on the bolt return.
The lock up is a bit sloppy on the rear.

None of these cons were deal breakers. Easy fixes. Except for maybe the gas, but all 9mm blowback rifles aren't good for this.

For 1k, I think it's A-OK. I think it's worth trying in 3gun PCC.

2 cents.

K9 is currently available at Tiger Arms in Poco at a very good price for Black Friday sale, at $897 it’s the best price I’ve ever seen on one. At that price you could also pick up the 9” upper from Kodiak and still be around the price of an FX9 and have an extra upper!
