Nice: Thanks for the pictures. Think I see a couple of model 15's and a nice 16 and a couple of 73's. I have a nice m16 that is scoped and appears to be a special order....no evidence of ever having a front sight. Have a 35-30 and a 40-70 in 73's that I have got shooting and have an extra 64 cal shotgun barrel but have never installed it.
They are interesting and fun to shoot......wTc

Top gun is 1873 #11 in .40-70 32" barrel advertised in the Maynard Catalog "for large and dangerous game"
Bottom gun is a #16 in .38-50, 30" barrel.
Second one from the bottom 1873 #12 32" barrel in .40-70.

I also have extra matching barrels for some of these guns. All have excellent bores but I have never shot any of them.

WTC, what kind of scope is on your #16?

Road King:
The scope is a Kahles. Neat old scope; shot it about a week ago and it is amazingly accurate.
I bought some 40-70 sharps brass from Track of the Wolf about 3 weeks ago and it came head stamped 30-40 Krag but fits well. I bought grade 8 washers at the local TSC store and shoot it with the loose washer [will eventualy solder the washer in place but that makes it difficult to use in a reloading press]. I used some .410 ..41 magnum bullets and they shot ok with 17 grs of 4759. Made round holes and no keyholing. I have also fired formed some .303 British brass and it is ok but still needs some more firings to complete the job.
Your 40-70 sounds like the same rifle as mine...with a 32" barrel. I figure its a No 10 as my book says the 10's were in the 40 cal series and the No 11's were in the 44 and larger calibres. Just bought a book about Maynard Breechloaders so hope to learn some more about them.
Take care,
wTc

I have 2 both in 22LR. An 1882 and one built by A.O.Neidner. Either one for accuracy will put a lot of new rifles to shame. They get shot quite often. Something about a Maynard shooting compared to a Low Wall Winchester.

Had one many years ago, got talked out of it. 32-40 with an original malcolm scope.

Now have a Wurfflein in the same calibre.
