I'm looking at both rifle in .223 and wondering if anyone here has experience shooting both? I've heard good things about each one, and they are both about the same price. Would it be worth stepping up to the T3 Varmint to get the heavier barrel, even though it does up the price? Any input would be great.

I have a T3 Varmint in 204 Ruger. I am a big fan of the heavy barrel set up. Mine is a tack driver. I think it is definitely worth it if you plan on doing a lot of shooting at the range. Great gun. I prefer it over my regular T3 Stainless models but it is heavier so if you plan on carrying the gun may not be the best choice.

Check the twist on the CZ you are looking at, some are 1 -12, some are 1-9. You'll want the 9 if you want to shoot bullets heavier than 60grains. I am big fan of the 527 and the single set trigger system these rifles offer. I also love the adapters you can get from Calhoon for shooting single shots. FS

I recently bought a CZ 527 LUX in .222. It is a beautiful rifle with a fine wood stock. The set trigger is fantastic and I just may have to sell off all my other rifles as their triggers feel so inferior.

It shoots very well and I have not really squeezed the best accuracy out of it yet. I wanted a walk around varmint rifle so a heavy barrel was not a prerequisite.

Tikka's do have a good reputation but I have not had any experience with them.

My other options would be to get a used Sako Vixen L461 in Very Good condition. How would this older sako compare to these other two models?

I would take the cz over almost any other gun maker that puts out a 223. The t3 seemed very like it had alot of tin in the steel just felt cheap to me. I found that with most new guns though as well except cz, winchester m70, sako, and ruger.

A friend of mine had an old sako vixen in 222 from back in the 70's. That was a hell of a gun(lost in a house fire)Quality was very good and action was extremely smooth. Very accurate as well.

I've run into this problem as well..... I've replaced more than a few of my guns with cz sst models for this very reason...The only ones I haven't replaced are ww2 mausers that are kinda collectors items...
