Anyone else not using there 300WM

Zing!!!;). My point exactly. One cannot be accused of suffering from magumtitis if they are hunting with a .375 Ruger since it's not a magnum (doesn't say magnum in the name so it can't be one, right?) compared to someone with a .375 H&H Magnum ( even though the Ruger has a larger case).

I took the easy way out;) and covered both bases.
- A 375 H&H 'Magnum', model 70 Winchester Super Express

and
- A custom 375 Chatfield Taylor

For the one-gun hunter, I think it is VERY hard to beat any of the 300 magnums for versatility. Back when I was younger and only had "one" rifle, I used my 300 Weatherby religiously. Now, however, I don't think I've hunted with it for over 20 years - there are many other guns now in the safe that are better suited to the game at hand. For lighter stuff, the 257 Weatherby, 270, 7mm-08, 7x57, 30-06 usually get the nod. Anything heavier, and either the 340 Weatherby or 375 Ruger come out.

I only started hunting since moving to Alberta in 2001 and always used a $500 Remington model 700 in 270, for deer mostly but one moose as well.
This past year (2014) I invested in a Remington XCRII in 300 wm because we were planning on going for elk and in fact did. Though none were found unfortunately.

I read tonnes of forums, online reviews, and spoke to several long-time hunters that I know; most said to go with the 300 because of the choices in bullets and the fact that I wouldn't ever need to go bigger. It had nothing to do with the racing stripe on the side of the gun ("magnum"). I chose the XCR because we could have snow, rain, and sleet in the same day in the Alberta foothills.

I also find it interesting about this recoil complaint because my 270 and the dear wife's 30-30 both have harder kicks than my XCR... Did I get lucky in the model I chose or are people assuming the kick based on the number '300' and have never actually fired one? I've gone through a box at the range in an afternoon with no bruising, unlike the 270. I'm genuinely curious?
