anyone else shorten the LOP on their m305 "usgi style" stock?

I'm a regular sized guy but for some reason the usgi M14 stock LOP seems long to me (iron sight setup), even though I know its a typical length. Even other rifles with roughly the same length don't give me the same impression of being too long.

So .....

I cut it down to the end of the hinge on the butt plate and installed a thin Limbsaver med. grind to fit. LOP is now 11 1/4". At first I thought this was going to be too small but it actually worked out great.

While I was at it reenforced the forend with carbon fiber arrow shafts and replaced the break with an SEI vortex. Have to measure OAL but if its not under a Socom length I'm betting its at least the same.

Makes for a nice compact package (for an M14 type) but more importantly the rifle feels much better (to me) and without the butt plate its also a bit lighter.

I often see references to lengthening LOP but wondering if anyone else has shortened their M14?

I haven't don't it on mine. But I have often thought about it. The metal butt plate leaves a lot to be desired and the rubber replacement ones are about as hard as the metal one. I may have to do something like this.

Yes, M14 metal butt plate is not impressive. Lots of extra metal for no reason now.

I've been thinking of doing my scoped M14 stock as well but with a regular 1" Limbsaver instead of the thin version to try it out.

Agreed, the replacement rubber M14 pad is not impressive either. Just about as hard as the metal version and adds too much to the LOP.
