I paid for an AR7 advertised in Gagnon's tent sale on April 17. I was told the shipment hadn't arrived. Month and a half later, still nothing. I've made about 5 calls but am told the same thing. "Nope it hasn't arrived. Call back next week." They are not giving any details either.

I had a similar experience with this store and this will probably be the last time I'll pay them for something ahead of time.

Is there anyone waiting for their AR7 from them as well?

Henry is, as far as I understand it, has been backlogged with production and is still playing catch up. This extends to certain parts/accessories they sell as well.

I emailed Henry to see what the status is. Am told they are good with responding back. Either way I feel the local store needs to be more proactive with customer service. I was unimpressed by their laid back, take it or leave it response.

They did reply:

Thank you for purchasing a Henry. The gun in question was re-designed for 2010. The new version will start shipping within the next couple of weeks which means you would start to see them in Canada within 30 days.

It is a longer wait than I had hoped but I do appreciate the information than the silence I get from the dealer. Now I am curious to know what changes are involved in the redesign. I like the new look of the rifle posted on their website. :)

Gagnon's

I ordered a Government Target model Ruger back in 1986 when I saw it in the Guns and Ammo magazine back then. Put my money down on it, as they thought it would be arriving in a month or two. This was at Lovett's in Kitchener. Pretty much a year to the date it arrived. Supply and demand unfortunately will dictate how long it takes to arrive. This is a lesson learned quickly if you want certain firearms in Canada. If you're not happy I'm sure Jerry and the gang at Gagnon's will refund your money. I deal with them about once every two weeks and only have praise to say about them. Their pricing is fair, their return policy on used rifles is fair, I tilt my hat to their efforts in all that they do - and I'm a very hard to please individual.

The dynamics of supply and demand is indeed very compelling when it comes to goods like firearms. My dissatisfaction does not stem from the delay but from a rather laid back attitude of the vendor in providing sufficient information. If I could reach out to the manufacturer to get to the bottom of it, how hard could it have been for the dealer to do this and convey the same to their customers?

I am sure Jerry and his gang at Gagnon will return my money if I ask for it. After all, the business I give them is not significant. Perhaps you have never had issues with them for this particular reason.

Having gotten the info from the horse's mouth, I will sit back and wait for my rifle. But when this is all done, I will cordially say my thanks and move on.

Did you end up getting your AR-7?

I'm thinking about getting one, and looking for where the best price might be had?

I've seen a couple in the $180-$190 range lately at local gun shows, does this seem like the correct pricing right now?

What types of deals can be had online for new ones? Do you mind me asking what yours cost you in the end?

Sadly the oddysey continues....3 months after handing them payment based on their ad, they suddenly remembered they were not ordering it after all! No clear reasons were given. Then they also forgot to refund me the money until another month later when I called to remind them. I did tell them they could improve a bit on customer service. I have no doubt they treat their customers well but they dropped the ball on this.

I then booked my order at Epps at $277.18+++. Delivery was supposed to be more than 10-12 weeks away. It's been three months and running. Henry informed me that they had production delays and so there was a huge backlog of orders to fulfill. They identified 2 distributors here that Epps can order from and Epps told me that they already do: "...and we do have the Henry Arms AR-7 rifles on back order with them. Once they have sizable shipments put together for us, they will ship these guns along with the balance of our requests." This was late last month. I don't know how accurate that is so I'm just down to following up every month or so. Cabelas SIR had them but I noticed they are on back order now.

The ones you see in shows are likely the old model.

A few things I heard from owners of the new model: The new one has a rail for scopes and the orange-lined stock can now hold 2 mags + 1 in the receiver for 3 total. If there is any internal improvements in the receiver I don't know at this time. The external finish of the receiver is new; a "hammered finish" gloss black. And you can have any color as long as it's black; no more camo or silver (I ordered a Camo so I'm verifying if this is true).

The barrel end is different and the ridge that slots into the receiver is now a metal notch. The new barrel did not gain any NOTICEABLE weight, yet the receiver end of it
has been redesigned. the cylindrical end that is inserted in to the receiver is now metal, as opposed to the same plastic that still encases the length of the inner steel barrel. That is a pretty significant change to an area that was prone to great wear.
