Just ordered a sight adjuster for the sks. Then realized its the dreaded Ncstar brand. Anyone ever had one of these break? Do sks sights tend to be pretty stiff?
I suspect that if you loosen the metal cylinder first with hammering that the sight tool might have a fighting chance. The sight probably hasn't moved in 50 years.
If by work, you mean "bend like rubber on my SKSes", we are in agreement. Mine says "TAPCO AK/MAK-90 and SKS Windage and elevation sight adjustment tool".
I got mine on ebay.ca from China for 6$ and its solid as hell. Used it to adjust more then 5 sks. I would soak in 3 in one for abit tho then oil so it moves better. It is rough at first tho.
I had too get it tight as possible, then hit it with a brass hammer. Seems to work well as i only wanted to move it hair by hair. It's a good thing being hard to move. We don't want it shifting on it's own.
Those wrenches aren't crap just difficult to align at first go to the sights. In addition and as per Ganderite, you need to clean up and oil the front sight as much as possible. Mine moves fine but the adjustments with the wrench at first try felt clumsy though everything is moving.
Wow i shoulda checked back on this thread. The stupid thing busted first time i tried it. Soaking in 3 in 1 is a good idea, have to try that next time. I also picked up a thinner front sight post, but no idea if it works because the slotted part of the tool busted as well, so i couldn't even remove the original one.
You get a propane torch and heat up the front sight. Take a punch and tap it. Easy. I had the sight tool, and what a load of junk that one. NC star brand.
