Anyone ever try Bore Sighters?

Hey guys, I've been looking into getting a bore site kit. Has anyone ever tried them? I've seen Cabela's has them for around $40 - $200.

I'm aiming for a litle closer to the $40 range but I figured I'd throw this out there to see if anyone has any opinions as to weather or not they're worth it.
Any help would be great!
 
boresighters put you on the paper, you have to do the final sighting on the range- they can be a great time saver - the one i use is a bushell optical with 3 expandable arbors- had it for years JUST DON'T FORGET TO REMOVE THE SPUD FROM YOUR BORE-BEFORE YOU FIRE- there have been several examples of this on here over the years

I have the same bushnell unit,and it always gets my first shot on the paper at 100 yards.
 
Why spend the money? Honestly if it's a bolt gun, remove the bolt, see the middle of the bore on the bull, put the cross hairs in the same spot, it's boresighted. Works everytime for me, all you need is a steady rest, which I assume you have anyways. And the price is PERFECT.

See if you say the same when your pushing 50, the bull can look mighty fuzzy staring down a tiny barrel, or maybe its just me :D I use a laser bore sighter and like it very much. Like other guys are saying........it gets you on the paper at 100 every time.
 
I've got the Bushnell model. Cost about $35. It is particularly handy if you're adjusting the ring inserts and not just the scope's internal adjustments.

It casts a small bright dot at 25m that is very easy to see. At 50m it is considerably dimmer and about 2" in diameter. I haven't tried using it at 100m but don't think I could see it at that distance.

X2. The .30-06 wasn't too bad, you could see down it pretty good. The .223 was another story. The bore is so small you get all kinds of interesting light effects going on in there. I ended up shining a laser pointer down the bore.

I've wondered about the bore sighters, especially the ones shaped like cartridges that you chamber, but I can already see possible issues with that after having used the laser pointer. If the laser doesn't go straight down the bore, it reflects off the sides and you distort the dot. So if the boresighter doesn't chamber with the laser shining straight down the barrel...? I'd suspect you get what you pay for with these style. After all, we've all grown up with the dollar store water pistol that shot 30 degrees to the left, right?

I understand your point there guys...no offense to you folks that are ocularly challenged! :redface: I have never tried the ole look down the bore trick on anything smaller then a .270 so I can't comment on anything smaller, but I could see it being a bit tough, especially if it was at the edge of your 'sharp' vision. So I stand rebuked, and thanks for reminding me that about that 'different strokes for different folks' thing. :yingyang:
 
Great! Definitly answers my question! I like knowing I'm at least going to be on the paper, ammo can be expensive! I just wanted to hear people say that I wasn't throwing my money away on useless du-hickeys.

I have the same one and it works really well for the price.

+1 very convenient in conjunction with the Burris rings. Just the little laser pointer with different plastic arbors for different calibers.

First two shots at 50m, about 1.5" off with first shot. Two shots at 100m. The fifth shot hit the 200M gong (which sounds impressive but its a large gong, nonetheless it was fun). Well worth the $35.
