I have a couple of Tristar O/U's on the shelf (Setters) - no experience with their function. They are a Turkish built shotgun (but many shotguns are now Turkish built including my Wby).

The fit/finish looks decent for the price point but sorry, can't give you even second hand opinion. Have sold a couple but no one has come back and said anything one way or the other.

Having handled them I would consider one myself if I was in the market. I have a S/S Stoeger and am pretty certain if I was looking to replace it I would choose a Pointer over another Stoeger (whether that means much is more personal opinion than anything else).

Their was a recent discussion on the Trapshooters & Shotgunworld forums on Tristar O/U's, you may want to check those out. They do contain the usual, high end vs low guys banter, with some useful information thrown in for good measure. Most topics on Turkish made guns bring this out, unfortunately Turkey I suspect will continue to pay for the quality on some of their early budget offerings. They do build some very good guns these days.

Thanks . As an alternative I was checking out the CZ Upland Ultralight , Stevens 555 and the Mossy International silver Reserve II Field and doing some blasphemous things to either (Cynergy ultimate turkey hunter clone-ish)

cheers

A waterfowl outfitter that I know was given ten Tristar shotguns to try out by the distributor, including a couple of O/U guns. I wasn't over impressed by the fit and finish, but I guess it isn't bad for an economy O/U. The O/U guns didn't get used a lot, but the semi autos required a lot of cleaning to keep operating.

I traded an old 1100 for a new tristar setter nib. Should have kept the Remington. First time out it wouldn't ####. After fixing that the barrel selector wouldn't work. The front bead fell off. After fixing the safety and barrel selector the spring behind the trigger broke. Both firing pins have broke and it took over 6 months until I got a hold of someone at the turkey manufacturer to force the us warranty center to send them. They weren't the same ones so I had to replace the springs to. That is not fun. I fired a 3" #3 steel thru their cheap mobile knockoff steel rated choke and blew the body out of it. The lower barrel shot 2' higher then the top at 25 yards. I fixed that with wooden dowel and a mallet and a heat gun
It works decent now and is a decent looking gun. I can't bring myself to sell it due to the trouble I've had with it. The bluing is very good. Nice and bright and even. The wood is very soft. Dents very easily.
I use mine for duck hunting when it's not windy.
There are better options. If you're tight on cash buy a baikal. Much better built and heavier to take the recoil of turkey loads if you use factory shells
As a side note you don't need 2 oz loads to kill a turkey. My 7/8 oz loads haven't failed me

Thanks . Actually hit 4 LGS today with a mate and shouldered some . The behind the counter guys at three of the shops told me to forget the OU and just get the Mossberg 535 lol .
