I ordered a mosin from sir mail order few days ago, still awaiting delivery. wondering if anyone else ordered one and how they liked it. As well as dates and pics :D

I got one from them 2 years ago for $145.99, rearsenalled with accessories. Mine was dated 1925 and came with a hex reciever. While the bore showed some signs of use with corrosive ammo, the lands were still sharp and I managed some decent enough groups with it last weekend, the first time I fired it. It's shooting about 6-8 inches right at 100yards (perhaps it was sighted in with the bayonet), but a bit of adjustment next time I'm out there should do the trick.

I found that it sometimes took considerable effort to work the bolt, though a thorough cleaning of the chamber should get rid of the decades old cosmoline that heats up and causes mosin sticky bolt after a few rounds, and it was nothing unmanagable. The only other downside is that it came with Importer's stampings from Century International Arms, though I'm not sure whether or not the slightly more expensive Tradeex rifles carry those markings. If yours turns out anything like mine though, you'll be well served by a solid, accurate and reliable piece of history at a traditional milsurp price.

Regards,

Frank

Just bought one today

I went by SIR this afternoon and bought one of the last ones they had in stock apparently. I have been eyeing them since before Christmas and didn't want to miss out on their current stock again. Didn't get to take it home yet though because of the 4 digit serial number, have to wait for CFC to be done with it. But this one is a reeaally nice one and I couldn't let this one pass. I'll analyze it more once I get to pick up! :)

their price is a bit lower, 149.99, but the gun doesn't come with sling and other accessories. So if you buy these elsewhere, you end up paying the 'market price'.

SIR's are all import marked last I checked. The Tradex and P&S guns are NOT import marked (except for some of the M38's) and they come with accessories for a marginally higher price. Both outfits also do free handpick, which SIR does not.

SIR mosin

The 91/30 from SIR was 139.99 and came with the accessory pack - sling, tools, oiler, ammo pouches. Bought a couple boxes of the Igman rounds as well. 150 gr beans 13.99 for a box of 20.
Haven't been able to pick it up yet, so not sure on all the markings and such. I don't know much about these Mosins yet, just a newbie with milsurp really, But numbers matched, might be force matched, I'll know more once I get to take it home. Was in great condition and looked really slick. Bore was also really good, not counter-bored. Looked good to me! That's why I decided to finally buy one. They have zero in stock I think now.
They still had the carbines as well for 149.99. Looked good too. Might pick one up if they still have them in stock next time I wander in there :).

Cheers,

Richard

The batch of mosins SIR has had for the last 6 months have NOT been import marked. If you went in person, you had the choice of 2 rifles and they were fine looking refurbs, some of the best I've seen. I saw a half dozen, and they were all great. All numbers matched, nary a counterbore, sling and cleaning kit included. I wish I'd bought a few! The price was right, too... I am hardly an SIR cheerleader, but their mosins are the best thing they've got going for them. However, if you're after a specific rifle date or factory, I will second P&S-Thier customer service is AWESOME.

I talked to SIR this afternoon specifically about their M44. I didn't ask if these guns were import marked, but I did ask about the sling, cleaning kit and other accessories. The answer was negative. So I did my math and decided not to order from them. At Tradeex, you pay $175 for an M44 with everything included.

But I didn't ask about M91/30 though.

Sir M91/30

Just got mine last week through the mail: Izhavek, 1942, no import marks, forced match s/n, beautiful wood, excelt barrel, and it also came w/ sling 2 pouches and oil bottle, cleaning tools, all for 139.99.

Mine arrived this past week and can be described the same as above with the exception it's marked 1943. Looking forward to getting out to the range.
