A fellow shooting enthusiast and hunter in South Africa has asked for Canadian help to get some items delivered to him.
My online acquaintance "Gert" is a gunsmith and shooter in South Africa who has developed an interest in the Imperial Magnum line of cartridges developed some years ago by Canadian gunsmith / inventor Aubrey White. Gert contacted Aubrey a couple years ago and purchased the original chamber reamers and headspace gauges, specifications, and 100 new, empty brass for the .338 Imperial Magnum cartridge. Gert would like to build a distinctly Canadian rifle for use on South African game. Courier companies will charge him over $300 to deliver a small package, and the South African Postal Service mail is not a reliable or practical option. So I volunteered to bring the items with me on my recent trip to Zimbabwe via Johannesburg. But unfortunately I missed the deadline for the Canadian export papers and so couldn't bring them with me.
If anyone is going on a hunting safari via Johannesburg in the next few months and wouldn't mind helping a fellow gunner out, it would be greatly appreciated. The paperwork is not difficult and costs nothing, it's just a formality with Canada Export Control. The items are not dangerous or airline restricted goods. It would be a matter of filling out and bringing the approved export papers (application is an online process), declaring the empty brass at the airline check in and putting them in with your checked baggage, then meeting Gert at the Johannesburg airport and handing over the package.
