1911 Steyr.
I have a 1911 Steyr, made in 1912, and managed to obtain some Hornady 9mm. Steyr brass, which I load with 125gr. Aim copper plated .356" RN bullets.
I use the same mid-range loads as for my 9mm. Para., figuring that the larger Steyr case reduces the pressure, and so far so good in this 100 year old pistol.
It is a heavy pistol, with mild recoil, but quite accurate in spite of the tiny sights, and the stripper-clips from 7.62X25 Tokarev surplus ammo fit perfectly to load it.
It ejects straight up, so brass goes in all directions, and is easy to lose at a grass/gravel outdoor range.
The bolt-face recess on my Steyr is a few thousandths too small to accept either 38 Super or 9 X 23 brass without reducing the rim diameter, which is not hard to do using a drill press and file, but it's a PITA. so I searched out the correct brass.
I use 9mm. Para. dies for loading, then run the first 1/4" or so of a loaded round up in a 38Spl/357 Mag. sizing die to reduce diameter slightly for easier chambering. I found an RCBS #23 shell holder has a much better fit on the smaller rim than the 9mm. Para shell holder.
Supposedly 38 Super/38ACP dies work better than the 9mm. ones, and I intend to buy a set to try out.
