Preferably in the Edmonton area. I really don't want to have to order up a set from Brownell's if I'm using it once. I just have to clean up the threads on the barrel of my freshly chopped M305 and then run a tap into the flash hider once I get it bored out later this week. The flash hider is getting the same treatment that Misanthropist gave his.

You don't have to order from the US to buy that size of tap and die ... usually a sloppy fit when done with a die...

I just don't want to have to order one period. The threads have been cut on the barrel already, but me being me, I'd like to clean them up a little further, and the tap is going to be necessary for what I'm doing to the flash hider.

A tap and die will only give class 2 threads at best. (Sloppy fit) if you are having the flash hider bored out at a machine shop get then to also chase the threads while they've got it chucked up in the lathe. Probably should get your barrel threads cleaned up while you are at it. Lathe cut threads are 100% better than tap and die cut threads.

I'm going to take a wild shot in the dark and guess that the bore on the flash hider is larger than .312 or so. I'd be more worried about the thread in the fh not being straight/true to the exit hole, than I would be concerned about the looseness of die cut/tapped threads. That said, class 3 threads, which by some crazy chance you might have on your barrel, are cut for about .001 allowance (there is only one class of internal thread, which the tap will give). So anywhere from spinning 3 or 4 turns with a light spin to needing a wrench to turn it on will probably be sufficient for your purposes. You spin the flash hider on til it bottoms out, so it will tighten up nicely. If you wanted it to index a certain way, you can use shims, a peel washer or a lead crush washer to get it where you want.

That said, If you notice some burrs, galling, or rubbing on the external threads on your barrel, a tri square needle file is really all you need to clean it up. Running a die over slightly out of spec threads (that still work in their current state)just might be a recipe for disaster.

More like 1000% IMO, ten times better.

Am I the only one who is wondering about the 1/2 28 size? I thought (but don't know for sure) that that size is a 5.56 barrel thread size and 7.62 threads were larger?

7.62 barrels are generally threaded 5/8 X 24 or 5/8 X 32. Anyhow, I have a set (die and tap) of 1/2 X 28 that I bought from brownells. PM me if you still need the tap and die.
