I'd buy a Kimber I was guaranteed to get reasonable accuracy...I like the look of the Classic Stainless for sure!

Is that the mag box max length? That would work fine with something like a 100gr Nosler or Hornady SP.Yes, short action, but 2.8" is fine for a Roberts.

I totally know the short actions work fine, but when I got Bevan King to build mine all I had was a long, so I went with the 3"OAL. It works fine and the diff in weight isn't worth mentioning. Some of the longer bullets do stick into the case a bit far, but a guy would do just fine with 100s in Nolsers or Hornadys anyways.Paul, providing it's throated correctly which is a prerequisite with any rifle, 2.8" mag box is fine.
A 3" plus COL may LOOK racier, but it doesn't provide a thing that a 2.8" round doesn't. If someone prefers to run a long action Roberts, fine, but they're kidding themselves if they think it's better.
In either action you'll be running around 44-47 grains of powder with the 100 grain bullets you mentioned, which is just fine in a 2.8" length round. A 22" barrelled short action Bob lets you run 3200 fps with a 100 grainer, just like in a long action Bob.
For some reason I thought the Kimber was based of the Winchester receiver?
If they are the short action should be around 3".
Has anyone with a Kimber short action measured the magazine well?
The "Montana" as in MRC out of Montana is indeed based on the short action 3.05" short action M70.
But the "Kimber" Kimber of America made in New York has a 2.815" (or so) mag box like the short action M700 or M77.
