Anyone have a liking for old Crosman pump rifles . .22?

I have a Crosman 140 from the late 60's that will do dime size at 20yds.
The norm is 8 pumps and max recommend is 10(so they say) The trigger gets harder the more you pump though.
It shoots hard, and loves JSB Exacts.
I also have an old Sears/Crosman, very similar, shoots harder with the same pumps and is grooved for a scope.
Both are loud, like the 1322.

I haven't tried any mods on mine. Replacing the seals to get them to shoot was a priority.
Have hunted beer cans(empty), and the odd bullseye. The Sears one is begging for a scope, and maybe some small varmint eradication.

Avoid the Crosman clamp on model......it can separate the solder joining the brass barrel to the compression tube and then it's pooched............Harold

Fortunately my Sears 126-19300 is grooved for a scope.

I came across a 1400 with a scope and a 140 and the best part they were both resealed a couple years back. Top end is 6-700fps but at 3 pumps they shoot in the 400s. I gave one to my dad and kept one myself. They are real gems but the quad seal can be hard to find if it leaks. Dont forget to store yours with a couple of pumps.

IIRC the quad seal is a 007 size, and pretty cheap to buy, when you buy from a bearing and seal outfit.

I bought ten seals for a bit under $5 a while back. Having spares seems to work as a preventive measure against needing them!

Nice to know, most seals can be had from your local auto parts store.
The real sticker is finding a pump seal like the old black ones. Many fabricate a new piston end and go to Oring.

I was recently reunited with my old 1322 from 30+ years ago from when I was a boy. My step father had it in his locker for the last thirty years. I thought I sold it years ago. Seals were pooched. So I stripped it down and replaced thanks toyoutube. Shoots now but not as powerful as I remember. Maybe a new pump seal on eBay?

She has a removable stock and a scope. 1.5x lol. I remember hitting dimes as a kid from 15 yards or so. Taught me a lot of firearm basic safety and control as a youth. Many birds, frogs, muskrat fell to the old girl.

WOW, 29 gns! I couldn't imagine lobbing those heavies downrange. I bet they have a lot of smack!

When I get a chance Ill put a few over the chrony, do some math. I bought them just for pumpers and c02, probably mess up a spring gun. Rabbit Magnums thru D L

Edit, I only had time and shoulder muscle to put 2 shots over the chrony, so not great science, each shot was 10 pumps on my140 which is a litt.e hotter than my 1400.

9.56 Field Target Trophy Green 766fps

That's 16fpe for the 29's and 12 fpe for FTT's.
Not bad for an old pumper.

I had a 2100 classic as a kid. It had good power at 10 pumps. Now I have a 1322 and a 2240 to plink with the family.

I guess the fact that pics of the 1400 looked a little different than mine should have tipped me off. LOL

Boy, does that sound like my experience! I got a model 1377 with the 1399 shoulder stock (+ pistol grips) for my 16th birthday. (31 years ago ) That gun has been resealed a couple of times, pre-YouTube...so I sent it off to Crosman. It's been heavily "hunted"...mostly frogs, chub...the odd bird. I had my first airgun, a Chinese model 61, almost 8 years before but it was inherited. That 1377 was MY first gun and boy does it have a place in my heart. I still have it.

As for older pumpers in general~when I was in grade 4, a good friend of mine got a Crosman 760 for Christmas so we used to go to his house at lunch time (no parents home) and shoot it off the back porch of his house. He had a large wood lot on the edge of the property so no worries...but thinking back, there was no eye protection whatsoever. Wouldn't have even known what it was. I feel fortunate that nothing bad came of that, save for an accidental discharge while he was using it. Cost me the big toenail on my right foot. Any idea how hard it is to NOT limp in front of your parents for a week? lol
