Anyone have a skinner peep set up on their lever gun?

Hey guys.

Just ordered a skinner setup for my BL22. Since I can't shoot the crappy irons on it worth the broad side of a squirrel lol.

Just curious what people like as a hunting aperture. I ordered the standard .96 and the large .125.

Also got a .600 front sight. That I can file down if need be. Found on another site out of the US that Andy recommended that height for standard barrel length on the bl-22.

I'll shoot it with the . 450 front sight first and see just how far off it is.

Should make the gun a whole lot more fun to shoot.

I'll update this when I get the sights and install them.
 
I had a skinner on my marlin 39 with the apreture it came with which is in somebody elses hands and now have a 10/22 with receiver peep and target front.

The marlin gave me standing groups of an inch at 25 yrds but much bigger at 50. I presume if i had a finer peep i would have done better. Even with no apreture just the ghost ring i was getting similar accuracy at 25. I have about the same to say about the 10/22. I dont think you want to go bigger to shoot over longer distances.
 
This made me think, i have this rifle a Chiappa 92 with 16 inch barrel in 44 mag and Skinner sights,it's still brand new unfired, i will have to try those Skinner sights, they look very easy to use... JP.

I have one on my 39a and love it. One thing I will warn you about is to make sure every once and a while to check that the aperture is on tight as I had mine fall off once. I could suggest that you lock tight it on but it sounds to me that you would like the option of switching them out.
 
I have the barrel mount Skinner sight on my Henry Golden Boy. It works perfectly with the factory brass bead front sight on the rifle. I am very accurate with it and also find it very quick to the eye. I haven't hunted with it yet but will go for snow shoe hare with it this winter.

I have a Rossi 92 in 357mag with 16" barrel, and mine has the Skinner peep in place of the factory bolt safety. This peep provides a longer sight radius, and it gets rid of the stupid bolt safety, a win, win situation. I am able to shoot 1" groups at 50 yards with this sight system.

Looks like you changed out the front sight too, was it too low for the skinner? I have same gun in 357 and have thinking of buying the skinner.

Oh and shoot the darn thing and let us know how you like it please! :)

It came this way from Wanstalls, time of year when brand new firearms pile up, no time to shoot but after the Hollydays i will... JP.
 
I have a complete set of apertures for all my rifles. In practical use, the narrowest peep is used for daylight targets shooting, the larger the peep the less light you can use it in. If you unscrew the peep from the sight you have a ghost ring sized hole for near dark conditions.

I trained my first 15 years in the army with the peep on an FN. the thing to remember is to get your eye close to the peep. Look naturally through it, aligning the front blade in the middle of the peep with your eye focused on the tip of the front blade on the target. It's very natural and quicker target picture than a notch.

Mine was held up at customs for three to four weeks but finally did make it through, although that was over five years ago. You should have no problem. But this is Canada customs we are talking about.
 
So got mine today. Not held at customs no extra paid. Took bout 2 weeks. Installed on gun and have to say the rear sight is nice and beefy looks to be strong and well machined. I drifted the front sight out and installed the .600 front and then stuck a laser bore sight in the barrel. It is dead on with the aperture as low as it goes. If I have to lower it any more I might have to file a touch of the threads of to get another 1/2 turn lower. Can't wait to get out and try shooting it next week. Def a huge upgrade over the crappy folding buckhorn that comes on these bl22s. I can post a picture later for now it is too late.
 
I put a Williams aperture on my BL last spring and it was a massive improvement.
Had to paint the front sight though,dried grass and gophers are about the same colour as the brass bead.
 
Well got out and shot it. I shot 5 targets at 25 yards. Got down to about a 1" group 5 shots each target. Then moved out to 50 yards. 3 targets 5 shots each. 1st all over like 3-4". 2nd figured out the breathing and shot a 2" group. 3rd all over again... All my shooting was done only off a knee not a rest of any sort.

So they can be accurate if your breathing isn't too bad. I'm not much of a rifle shooter but I had fun shooting it. So much easier and better for target acusition than the rear buck horn.

Was only using bulk pack rem golden bullets too 36 gr HV
