Anyone have an 870 +2 extension?

IIRC, most +2 extentions on a standard 4 shot tube are nearly flush with a 18 inch. I suspect you're going to have a ###### Edition.

picture shown is 18'' barral with a 2 shot extention, so i think your can not put 2 shot extension on your 16''

I've seen guys with the extended tubes beyond the barrel. I would recommend a barrel clamp, but the extention only suffers from a bit of muzzle blast.

I didn't even know they MADE 16" barrels for the 870... I'm guessing it's not a hack job (you prohibited part maker you... :)).

They are a factory part, but I would love to know more about them. I thought they might be a work around the US laws. Down south, rifle barrels need to be 16 inches or more, but shotgun barrels have to be 18 inches. As they have rifled sights, I wonder if they were sold origionally as rifles?

Story I've heard it that they were made to specification for a government agency, no idea who I've heard conflicting stories that didn't pan out. The are all equipped with LAW ENFORCEMENT ONLY marked stocks to my knowledge (I've had almost half a dozen now) and thus don't point to civy use in my opinion.

The neat part is that you can use a folder on one, and it gets over the OAL limit by mere mm's :) Smallest shotgun possible as a non-restricted. With a fixed stock they are a nice little carbine, due to the rifle sights. :)

They are neat little units, and PS I have more than one if anyone wanted one, with folder or without... :p

Story I heard was they were from Customs Canada. I think they may have been re manufactured by a govt. agency because of the way the front sight is mounted so close to the end of the barrel. All the other factory Remington rifle sighted barrels have a little more barrel in front of the front sight.
My 2 shot extension measures 6 13/16" but I don't see why you couldn't cut it to the right length and re-thread the end. It might give you plus 2 for
2 3/4" shells.
I just tried my 2 shot extension on a 16 " barrel and it lines up exactly with the groove in the extension where the barrel/extension support clamp goes on. It sticks out 2 1/2 inches past the end of the barrel. The end of the extension has a plug that is brazed into the tube. You could cut the tube at the right spot and then put the end that is pluged in a lathe and turn it till all that remains is the original plug. Re braze this to the shorter extension and you would be set.
