Hi everyone
I am in the market for a silhouette rifle and want to try something that isn't a Remington model 700 and was leaning towards the savage model 16 in .308.
Most of the fellows at the club shoots use a variant of the rem 700 so I want to try a savage just to be different. The biggest issue with most of the Savage 10's and 12's is weight. The rules state 9.5lbs for hunter and 10.2lbs for silhouette so that leaves only a couple of options from the Savage camp and I would like to know if they are as acurate as the rest of the clan and what type of issues they might have with regards to accuracy and reliability.
I would appreciate honest real opinions of the model 16 good or bad. Or any other ideas for a suitable option.
I'm not opposed to the Remington stable but would like to prove that there is something else that works as well.
Thanks.

I've owned a Savage 16FCSS for years now, and I love it. Its original barrel is 7mm WSM, and it's easily the most accurate out of the box rifle I have. I have since bought five aftermarket barrels for it in different calibres, and it's a very versatile rig. My only problem was the original flimsy stock, but I guess the new ones are much better.

Tanks Guys.
The. ASIC rules for silhouette are it has to conform to factory specs. Basically as you bought it and as the factory made it but your allowed to change a few things.
One of my concerns was the stock. Since I haven't been able to track one down at a show room to have a look first hand I'm kinda relying on feed back from you. Seems wholesale sells them but doesn't stock them. Not sure what the reasoning behind that sales plan is.

How about groups and consistancy. I figure even if the stock is sub par a new one is only a call away to boyds. The main concern is accuracy. Off hand shooting is a very different animal and I need all the help I can get. Lol.

Ten shots 223 Hand loads at 100 yards. The red circle is an inch.

I have a 116fcss (that I love) but if your wondering about the stock, the older non-accustock ones were flimsy on the fore end but the new ones have an aluminum block that runs from the action to the front swivel. It's pretty rigid.

If you go to the savage website they have a video on it and it will show you better than I could explain.

Here ya go: h tp://www.savagearms.com/accuracy/

Btw, I got mine at frontier firearms for a really good price.
