My dad dropped me a line this morning asking if i knew anything about the FN 5/7 and i had to be honest, i had never heard of it.
after doing some research into it i can see its a very interesting gun.

just wondering if anyone has one or has shot one or has any first hand knowledge about them?

i can see through searching that there has been dealers a couple years ago that sold them up here, but i cant find anyone who currently carries them.
has anyone seen any in stores in the last year or so?
has anyone imported one?
has anyone seen ammo for them up here?

any info would be appreciated.

thanks in advance for the help.

ya from my research ive passed along the same to my dad already, ammo is gonna be a bear to get.

but did you watch that video?
talk about next to nothing for recoil and can you spell fire breathing dragon!?!?!

Ammo is practically non existant and any you find will be pricey. The calibre and the associated firearms are lame ducks.

so lame ducks because the ammo is pricey?

if the ammo was not pricey would it still be a lame duck?

lets put the ammo question aside for a minute and discuss the gun and the round.
i think we can all agree that the ammo is pricey (though you can pick it up in the states for $20 for 50 rounds on sale if you hunt around)
but its not like we are gonna be carrying this gun or putting 20k rounds down the pipe a year.
this is for a fella to buy who enjoys a sunday afternoon plinking at the local range.

5.7x28mm is akin to .22magnum, don't waste your time with exotic guns or calibres. The PMR 30 would be cheaper and easier to feed, but if a guy is intent on using the gun very little as you mention then buy whatever floats your boat.

I've read some reviews on them and watched a bunch of youtube reviews. Nobody who has reviewed it seems overly impressed.
It's interesting and if it were cheaper to shoot maybe it's popularity might grow.

There were reports of failures with the Five-seveN pistol posted on the Internet over the past few years, including a catastrophic explosion of the firearm:

http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2012/02/27/fn-five-seven-kaboom/

(same issue) http://www.predatormastersforums.com/forums/ubbthreads.php?ubb=showflat&Number=2159133&nt=5&page=1

This issue appears to be related to the use of (improper?) handloads rather than factory ammunition.

Beyond that, however, most reviews of the Five-seveN make the same claims: light weight, fumbly controls, zero recoil, ridiculous muzzle flash, EXTREMELY expensive proprietary ammunition.

Epps has 5.7x28 ammo in stock, but a box of 50 rounds will run you $50.99 + taxes.

The guns themselves retail for $1,639.00 + taxes.

That makes for one expensive plinker.

Now if Excel Firearms would get off their duff and put their 5.7 carbine into production, that might be an interesting proposition. I wonder how well the 5.7 would stack up against the .17 HMR, or even the .204 Ruger for 100 yard varmint use with a soft-point bullet?

my dad picked a brand new 5/7 up for $1400 and was able to get a shwack of ammo for $30 a box.
it should arrive next couple days.

will be interesting to see and shoot it.

after reading up on this gun im kinda hoping he likes it and gets the FN P90 to go with it.
seems like a real neat round and gun combo.

I have one. Ammo expensive, dangerous to reload for, huge muzzle flash / blast, about half the recoil of a 9 mm, very easy to control......and probably the most accurate factory duty gun ever produced.
My 50 meter groups are almost as good as my S&W PPC9 custom gun.
