I've been looking at some of this stuff for sale online, like the competition hammer set with replacement hammer and springs, as well as the bolt buffer(rubber tube), also the enlarged cocking handle and the elongated mag release.

What if any of this stuff actually does what claimed or is worth the money? I wouldn't mind a lighter trigger pull. But I'm not sure about the other stuff.

Thoughts or opinions?

Personally, I think that stuff is a waste of money. Invest in a good barrel and stock, the factory stuff can be tuned up just as nicely.

The longer cocking handle is a good thing to buy, but the existing mag release can just be drilled, tapped and an extension installed.

All the new 10/22's are plastic trigger groups, from trigger guard, to trigger, to the mag release. I'm not to comfortable drilling flimsy plastic and attaching things to it, it will no doubt crack.

The guys who have the older 10/22's with all metal construction lucked out.
Thanks for the tips kombayotch.

Hmmm mine WAS plastic (just replaced it yesterday with aluminum parts) but the magazine release was a plastic extended one. It had a hook that was large enough for your finger and worked quiet well.

I would also maybe look into a trigger, I found the plastic one to be very cheap and kinda ruined the 10/22 experience.

ajay - a hammer is certainly well worth getting as the factory trigger is quite atrocious. You can expect a hammer to lower trigger pull from about 7-8lbs down to 2.5-3lbs. Bolt buffers are a nice thing to have for protecting your 10/22 bolt (basically instead of the bolt hitting a medal piece each time it is hitting a softer material. This won't necessarily do anything to improve function but can make it longer lasting. I don't have a mag release or extented bolt handle on mine, but I don't think the mag realease would be a bad idea as from the factory it is rather hard to remove the mag.

for the most part, these things all do what they say. just do your research. the extended mag release, take it or leave it.

the hammer makes a nice improvement. my one 10/22 has a trigger job, the other not, i keep thinking the safety is on on the one without a trigger job because the pull is so heavy, i easily hold the weight of the gun on the trigger with the safety off (the gun unloaded DUH!).

the bolt buffer helps quiet down the "clack" of the action.
