Anyone have experience with D700 or D800 powders?

Canada ammo has a sale on D700 and D800 powders.

Seems every lot of powder made is a bit different as they warn regarding load work up. I'm hesitating as I really enjoy my hands the way they are vice being hamburger. Dominion arms powder with variances in manufacturing? Iunno. Powder is one item I am willing to pay for quality control.

If I buy one pound that to me would not be worth the effort for saving a few bucks but, buying 5lbs at roughly 20$ bucks per, that might make it worth while. (9mm plinking loads anyway)

What is your experience with these powders?

I can't help you either but did order 8 1lb canisters of d700 yesterday for shot shell reloads.
Also wondering if in case they have the same batch number I still should mix them up. Prefer to only open one and leave the others sealed of course.
 
I have never used either of these Dominion powders, but have heard that they are as good as the 700X and 800X by those who have. If you shoot pistol or shot-gun; buy 8 lbs or more bulk of the same lot; work up your loads, and shoot until it's gone, then repeat. These powders are a good deal, and had I not scored a good deal on 8 lbs of H38, I would be ordering some today!.
 
Like every powder, there will be slight differences between lots. What's different with these powders is that there is no published load data available, so it's up to you to develop your initial load data. Suggestions are given for a Start Load that will be "safe", e.g. for D700: "Use Hodgdon 700X data, minus 10% and work up the load", but there is no Max Load provided, although by also suggesting that it's: "slightly faster than Titegroup", it also suggests that you stay slightly below published Titegroup Max Loads . If you want to get the most out of the powder and not exceed pressures that align with published Max Pressures, you'll need a Chronograph and what might be called "Intermediate" reloading skills. I would also have some Hodgdon 700-X and Titegroup on hand for comparison purposes (which I do).

There have been many threads on CGN and elsewhere that walk people through a process to determine a safe range for a given "unknown" powder, but they all depend on a Chronograph. Do that once and you're good for that Powder Lot. Buy another lot, and like any powder, you'll want to compare it to the previous lot to see if it's slightly slower or faster and adjust your loads accordingly.

All that said, I have D800 and have found it to be a useful powder, and many others have been impressed by that and other powders offered by Canada Ammo, but it's not for everyone. These powders go for about 20% less than Hodgdon Powders (more when on sale), and better yet if $200+ is spent and there's Free Shipping, so you do save $.

However, if having to go through that induces anxiety, in my opinion they're not for you, particularly pistol powders where one pound can load 1000+ rounds.

I have no direct experience with D700 but lots with High Skor 700X. It’s the cleanest burning power for me in 45ACP. Excellent for light to mid loads.

My experience with all of the other Domion powders has been excellent. As good as the canister grade powders they are named after.
 
I have used D700 for several years loaded as 700X in 12 gauge, 9mm and .45ACP. It was all from the same batch (2 5lb jugs). D700 looks exactly the same as 700X. Ran into a problem just today when I opened up a different batch and found the powder looked completely different. I have some queries out about it now.
 
...and still completely relevant.
Myself and others I know bought pounds and pounds of Dominion Powders and it is still very much in use.

I don't know if Izethebye realised he was jumping onto a 7 year old thread, but the answer he seeks is already provided in the thread he started on the same subject this morning.

I have about 40 to 50 lbs of Dominion powder left. Including both types of D700 itztb is worried about.

Read the instructions on the label, pay attention to lot numbers. Everything will be fine.
