Not sure if this is the right place to post, if not mods please advise.

As the title states I'm looking for a first hand account of this piece of kit. I would be getting it for a great deal but know Caldwell is not the most dependable brand. Online reviews seem positive for a multitude of applications but it cant hurt to ask the community.

Any help is greatly appreciated.

No experience with that piece of kit in particular but lots of experience shooting off tripods. I'm curious what your intended application is? That sure is a heavy setup at 13lbs. Have you looked into a more contemporary tripod setup with a ballhead or levelling base and a saddle or arca attachment?

I would prefer something closer to what you're describing, the only reason I'm asking about this specific tripod is because of the potential deal I'd be getting.

It'll mostly be for zeroing a bunch of systems and possible fixed position hunting if the terrain provides odd shooting positions.

I dunno how good a deal you're getting but on your link, price is about $300. If you look around, you can pick up a Slik D700 tripod for about $100 (or a similar, used Manfrotto for about the same or less), same for a decent levelling base (nothing fancy) and probably get a pig saddle for $150 or so (even less if you go for an arca attachment). So for ballpark $350ish you have a setup that will be lighter and much more versatile. There are deals to be had if you look around, no need for the multi thousand dollar RRS setups (nice as they are!)

search "killer tripod" on amazon. iv had mine about 2 years, 3k+ shots from rifles 6lbs - 25lbs, not one issue
