I am new to shooting and hunting and looking for a first shotgun. Never shot clay but have observed at the range a few times, probably won't be a regular thing for me but I would give it a try. I doubt I would ever shoot duck and i have never seen a wild turkey in B.C. I would be very interested in grouse and rabbit hunting. I've considered .410 and 12g as well and perhaps down the road a pump or semi 12g might join the club but as a likely only shotgun what are your thoughts on the Mossberg Silver Reserve 2 20g o/u? I have recently shouldered a few different models and price ranges and I think this might be a reasonable compromise. I did read a few reviews about broken firing pins and I have done some reading on Turkish barrels. It would seem that most of the problems have been worked out from earlier versions.

Thanks for your replies I enjoy reading these forums daily and getting some knowledge from others experiences. Love CGN.

My neighbour bought that model in 410 and it broke but they were good on the warranty. Take a look through the EE, lots of excellent choices there.

I can't speak to the latest Silver Reserve but the only Turkish shotgun I have right now is a Stevens 555 over/under. Which is kind of funny as a few years earlier I looked at the Stevens 512 over/under and handed it back to the counter person in about a minute. But the 555 is a vast improvement over the 512 for an entry level gun in my opinion. I have not shot a ton of shells through it yet but I've had no issues. I really like it as a field gun as it is very light and great to carry. I do not find recoil an issue with field loads. I don't use it for waterfowl. But I know it is not a high volume gun and I only shoot pasture clays with it. You might want to have a look at it if you are thinking a low budget Turkish gun. Of course you can find some nice used well known name brands that are of much higher quality for near the same price as some new Turkish guns..
