Hi. Just wondering if anyone has the Ruger American 22 bolt action rifle? How accurate is it? What are your thoughts on it? Good points? Any negatives? Thanks for the replies.

Have one in 22 mag. I inherited it. They're good rifles for the money. For the life of me I can't figure out what I can do with a 22 magnum that I can't do with a 22lr though.

Sold mine, hard to pin it down in words, but just had an overall cheap feel to it.
Mine shot well though with Norma ammunition

Had a stainless 18” barrelled model a couple years back that I regret selling. It was accurate enough until I got a T1X.
Loved how it used the 10/22 magazines and fed very well. It would hold 3/4” at fiddy no problem with SK standard plus.

Have owned two, first one was standard, 22" barrel with synthetic stock, really liked it once I got the open sights adjusted. Fit me really well, was my go to rabbit gun, couldn't seem to miss. Gave it to my son when he started hunting. Bought another one with the wood stock. Open sights were complete garbage from the get go, they could not be tuned. Put a scope on it, and it was very accurate, but overall, it did not fit as well as the synthetic version, and I sold it at a loss.

So hit and miss for me.

I have two - compact synthetic and a lrt - like them both quite accurate but not in the same league as cz455 or cz457 as far as fit and finish or accuracy- guess it depends on finances but I would lean toward cz’s - however the rugers go bang when I pull the trigger and they hit the target and I am keeping mine

I’ve had 2 . The stainless shot like a laser. The blued version was a tomato stake. Both guns sounded like a “zipper” when the bolt was cycled. It took an entire football game of flicking the bolt back and forth for it to stop. Trigger was less than stellar on both. I did the “pen spring “ trick to reduce the trigger pull. I did not touch the trigger safety blade. The stainless is still in the vault. Used a picatinny rail on both. The stainless is now in an MDT chassis ( a Black Friday sale a number of years ago) it is an improvement. The old stock was flimsy. In a rest I could put a finger on the wrist and watch the scope crosshairs go up and down

I owned a blued/ wood stocked version. Shot very well with Hornady VX ammo. I put a Timney trigger in it and that helped greatly. Sadly the gun just didn’t fit me well. It was just too long in the stock for me. Sold the gun but kept the trigger For sale by the way).

I have the compact model that I use for birding which it is perfect for. Then decided to throw a scope on it to see how accurate was at 50 and 100 yards. Using Elly sport it shot a 5 shot one hole group. But the synthetic stock is not comfortable for bench shooting so I am lookng to get a Ruger LRT model.
