Anyone hear about this .22 Stg 44?

It kind of looks like a toy to me. It may just be the photos but it does not look very sturdy.

and being rimfire, it's non restricted as long as it's over 26 inches :)

IIRC that's what folks were saying on the rimfire forum about the .22 AR lookalikes. I believe some ended up restricted while the AK lookalikes are all prohib.

Don't assume just 'cause it's a .22. Not that I wouldn't like to be proven wrong. Closest I'll ever come to the real deal...

That is because they are classified as variants.

This on the other hand... hard to say.
 
I don't believe that the Stg44 is a named prohibited firearm, is it? It is only prohib because it is full-auto. Accordingly, a semi-auto clone or a 22LR (even if classed as a variant) would not be prohibited.
 
The gun will be manufactured by GSG (who make the MP5 .22 clones) and imported into the USA by ATI. There will also be an MP40 .22 clone as well.
