I like the sounds of it, other than the fact it never took off commercially.

short action, lower recoil than the .308 yet faster and flatter than the 30.06...even though those claims to fame are in single percentage points. :p

reading Chuck Hawks, it seems that it can be pushed as high as 3000fps with a 150 grain bullet.

but like I said, short action like .308, faster and flatter than a 30.06 and lower recoil than the .308. those three factors add up to a nice picture, minus inherent cost/availability of brass for reloading. :yingyang:

Interesting cartridge but I'd just take a .308 or .30-06 and call it good enough. If I had to have a short action and beat the .30-06 there is and obvious answer in the 300 WSM and reloading components are easier to find.

I was only curious about it as I got a lead on a T/C barrel for one. lower recoil and fast are attractive...but the expense of reloading doesn't appear to justify.

granted, the offer came with dies and 100 brass I think. :)

Fairly pointless cartridge outside a few old time bench rest shooters.
Pretty sure Newton says that all things being equal, it's impossible for the 30TC to push a pill faster then the 308 with less recoil so I wouldn't parrot that around too much lol.

it's parroted from the wiki article. something about short and fat/wider cartridges allowing for better speed and lower recoil.

but yeh, I getcha, lol!

I had one chambered in a T/C venture, Factory ammo was pretty much limited to Hornady Superformance at the time. I shot a few boxes of 150gr sst’s through it before selling it. Shortly after I bought the identical rifle in 308win for my wife. The 308 shooting Hornady Superformance 150gr sst’s felt slightly lighter in recoil (not as sharp) from what I remember and the muzzle velocity is basically identical as the 30TC.

The only interesting thing that came from the 30TC is the 6.5creed IMO.

So the 6.5 creedmore has the 30 TC as a parent case? Interesting, there is your brass source.

I had a personal policy of no more than 3 reloader only calibers. Seems to have pretty much flip flopped for me. I have some pretty hard to find components for, calibers. Guess for me the caliber, purpose, and deal would have to line up. No more safes.

You can make it out 308 (or any 308 based cartridge), but what's the point? Go through all the hassle to duplicate 308 performance...no thanks.
30TC parent was the 307Winchester which is just a rimmed 308.

Physics says if you're using the same bullet, in the same weight gun, with the same amount of powder in basically the same size case you're going to end up with the same recoil. It's newton's 3rd law, every action has an equal and opposite reaction. In my opinion the differences would be so small between the two it would be very hard to tell the difference. Of course things like stock fit will make a subjective difference in felt recoil.

Sounds like a great "I just gotta be different" cartridge, but not much else IMO.
