A buddy and me are contemplating a buffalo hunt this winter, likely up around high level, but possibly in saskatchewan, where we're residents, if i can track down a place its possible. What can you tell me about bison hunting? How do you even hunt them (tracking, i assume?)? Hows vehicle access to hunting areas? we plan on dragging up an old camper and a quad, but would like to know what we're doing, at least half assed, beforehand. Thanks in advance.

Draw only in WMU 536 & 539 (Jan 1 to Feb 28 2013). You'll have to read the regs further for non-residents.
At that time of year I would think a person might cover more ground with a sled than a quad.

Good luck.

It's a complete luck draw for use res of Alberta to hunt them in Alberta.

I have a buddy who got one 2 years ago. Said it was the coldest weather he ever hunted in.

Draw only northwest of High Level. Any large amount of snow the quad wil be useless unless it has tracks. Lots of oil/gas roads in area, might catch bull close to the edges. Be prepared for -25 and colder, probably closer to -35. Check with the F & W officers in High Level for more info...they are quite helpful on this.

Only other place for bison that you dont need a tag is near the border of WBNP, if memory serves me correctly.
