I have a young hunt trained Labrador retriever and I would love to get him out working again after a long winter. Wondering if anyone is snow goose hunting without a dog anywhere from Ottawa to Cornwall (WMU 65) and who would like to try with a retriever? I'm not a professional, not looking for money, I'm just a fellow hunter with a young and eager hunting dog who wants to go fetch some geese. If you're interested, contact me and we can discuss the details. We are only available on weekends, I come with the dog, but just to handle - not intending to actually hunt as well, though I am fully licensed and have my stamp so could add to your bag limit.

I do the exact same thing with my Chessie,
I usually call an outfitter here in the area, and join up with them , just to get my dog out doing what she loves to do
same as in the fall, I go out with the outfitter, or meet some non resident hunters while I'm out scouting and arrange to join them just so I can work and handle my dog, its great experience for her, as well it gives the hunters that have never hunted over a dog a great experience
I honestly thought I was the only one doing this sort of thing , nice to know someone else does it too

Yes I thought it would be a great win/win. I do a lot of duck and goose hunting in the fall (almost 100 birds last season, which actually was his first season!), but dont have any land or opportunity for snow geese in the spring, so I had this idea. But no takers yet...

It is truly amazing to hunt with a good dog. I can never go back to the days of going to fetch my own birds... :)

helping out the outfitter, and going out with the non residents , in two seasons my dog has retrieved over 1000 birds to hand , she now knows her job and lives for it, I'm not very good at the hunt test games, but I now have a retriever that is well trained for hunting

I don't think anyone who hunts snow geese would turn down the offer of a retriever. I've been trying to find someone, anyone in eastern Ontario to take on a hunter for 3 years with no avail. The only people I get responding to FB or other posts looking to hunt snow geese is from outfitters offering to charge me hundreds per day.

I would seriously get a retriever if that made active hunters more likely to take me on. I guess the reasons snows are so overpopulated is that there just aren't that many people hunting them.

I think that people who are hunting snow geese already have a dog... I didn't get any hits on this. But still happy to go retrieve if anyone happens upon this thread.. :)

I've been scouting/hitting farm fields in Hawkesbury, Rockland, Cornwall, Alexandria, Alfred, Crysler, and Navan for the last two weeks and only saw one flock of snows. I saw them last Wednesday and they were in a field I couldn't hunt!

I admit I have been busy with work and I was out of the country for a while in the early season. Spring was slow to come this year. Have any of the Eastern Ontario gunnutz found any snows in numbers? I'm curious.
